I purchased these a long time ago with the expectation that they would be solid brass for use on my fiber laser. They most certainly are not. They are minimally coated in brass or a brass like coating, but like others have said they do not engrave like Brass should. Do not buy for anything except very light surface engraving.

Not really brass but I expected that. Still worked well with my fiber laser for engraving.

I use these coins to engrave different things and the quality is very high. The addition of the protective cases that come with them make them look all that much better. Great buy. I have purchased more than 100 coins so far and will continue to buy more.

Great looking coin blanks. Just need to find someone to engrave them for me now. Was originally going to strike them with a set of punches and such but changed my mind. Might ask one of my friends to use his hydraulic press. I like that it is copper, have not tested it if it is pure copper but I believe it is. Will join my eclectic coin collection.

Every other photo posted with reviews shows a different set of coins. The one I got was supposed to be brass. When I started engraving them, I found that they are only brass plated with a silvery mystery metal underneath. Honestly, I'm not really that mad about it as the silver engraving against the brass background looks kind of cool, but this is not the product that I thought I ordered. Their diameter is pretty consistent, but their thickness varies (even across the surface of a single coin). This can make finding the right engraving depth a little tricky. I just ran a batch of 7 coins, and 2 coins didn't engrave to a sufficient depth to consistently show silver.

I'm using a 2w pump laser at 1064nm and it cuts and blackens. Even at 5%, I'm leaving an etch into the metal (my laser focus settings). I haven't tried this with a blue laser, but I'm definitely leaving a mark. I'd love to get a 3D relief, but I'm not sure I can do that with just 2w.
