Sauder Costa L-Shaped Desk, Chalked Chestnut, Home Office with Storage & Keyboard Tray

We were doing some remodeling and wanted to upgrade my desk from the 20 year old mess I had (LOL). Since my office is in a corner of our bedroom, I also wanted to get furniture that would match my new bedroom decor. I looked long and hard and decided that this Sauder desk would match my furniture as well as offer me more storage than my previous desk. The desk looks beautiful in the corner of my bedroom and I'm really pleased. It took my husband and I a couple of hours to put together because it is big and has lots of pieces, but the directions were easy to follow and we had no trouble methodically working our way through to a finished desk. It is a very sturdy (and heavy) piece. My only complaint with the desk the keyboard drawer. There is no room for my mouse on the drawer, so I put it up on the desk surface. This quickly became annoying to go up and down with my arm. I solved the problem in a very primitive way by adding a heavy cardboard "extension arm" to my keyboard drawer so my mouse can sit to the right of my wireless keyboard. It works perfectly and nobody else sees it anyways. When I'm through working, I slide the cardboard in and push the drawer in. It is neat and tidy and even my husband is pleased with how much prettier that corner of our bedroom is than before.

If you buy this desk (which I do recommend), plan to set aside several hours for setup. There are SO MANY little pieces. Inventory the pieces carefully before you start. We found one piece was incorrect (we got 3 small drawer bottoms instead of two small and one large). The seller was very willing to send out the new piece as soon as we called them but we did have to wait awhile for it to arrive. And make sure to set it up where you want it - it is VERY heavy and extremely difficult to move once built. One person can do most of the assembly but will need a little help at the very end. Once setup, it is a beautiful desk with lots of space. It is finished on all sides and and looks good from any angle. The handles and detailing add a sense of style. My monitor arm mounts clip easily as the desk top overhangs at the back of the desk. The cable management is great and it has plenty of storage. And the keyboard drawer is sturdy and holds a good size keyboard. One more note though - I wouldn't advise putting a computer in the cupboard (despite the website saying you can) as there is very little ventilation and it would likely overheat. But there is plenty of room to put one under the desk.

This is the perfect desk! It looks amazing in my home office. It took a while to put together, but the instructions were not hard to follow. Goes faster with two people.

First..let me say I am the type who can barely put a cardboard box together. That said, the directions on how to assemble this desk are crazy GREAT and easy to understand. 5 stars to Sauder on assembly directions. As to the assembly haha it's almost like some guy with OCD wrote the directions, because every tiny TEENY thing you need do is explained with great sketches to follow. That said to be honest...I was going nuts putting his desk together as there are a million parts.. In my case it took me a WEEK to finish. Not cause I am THAT bad...actually the largest part of the desk...the TOP marked X, unfortunately had a bit of damage to about six inches on an edge. So much so it looked awful. I went to the Sauder site...under warranty. I simply checked off some boxes and long story short..the damaged top was covered under warranty..NO questions asked, a new one would be on the way. Being I had one top missing on the L shape..that's where the week came in as to assembly as I'd do just an hour or two a day, since I could not finish it without the top. As to the replacement part Sauder was awesome...and so was their cus service who I contacted about shipping time. It did take about ten days to get it..but all good, BTW I can't really blame Sauder for one piece that had a LITTLE damage as these boxes are crazy heavy...so I think this can be a common problem with any of these put together items. Sauder has you covered 5 stars for that plus made in USA another 5 stars!! To cut a long novel short...the desk assembled looks GREAT. It' super solid..my only quasi negative is, in pictures the chalk white looks MUCH more light white than what you get, In fact the Chalk color is in-between a grey and white..but still looks nice actually. The overall fit and finish and build on this desk are awesome. Sauder really paid attention to detail...even the cabinet drawer hinges can be micro adjusted,I was very impressed. Ah...now to the FLAW. "This will only apply if you are using this with a computer." For one thing, you can't REALLY put a computer tower in the place they show..as almost no air can get inside. Besides being unable to attach wires to the back of your computer (As the cabinet is not open in the back) You can't enclose a computer tower... Your computer will end up on the FLOOR not IN the desk unless you want to kill your tower with lack of airflow. Part two, and this still annoys me...who's the genius who designed the pull out drawer for the keyboard??. What I mean is, it mounts about 2 inches UNDER left or right side of the top..so you lose a couple inches in width, in where to put your keyboard. But the thing is your arm is going to CONSTANTLY hit one of the sides of the top. That is because the drawer does not have enough room for you to sit away from the either left side of the top or same if you mount it so your right arm will hit the other edge of top number 2, on the L shape. I have finally just angled my keyboard a bit enough that I can KINDA use the keyboard without my left arm CONSTANTLY hitting the thick top. It's super, VERY annoying, and if I had known about this I would have passed on this desk. If you are ok with your arm rubbing up against the side of the top of the desk, (you do get mostly used to it) this is a GREAT desk...

So it’s definitely not easy to assemble as it takes time but the instructions are quite clear and easy to understand, unlike most. It’s the perfect desk! Tons of storage, room to write, and incredibly sturdy! Also love that it has a pull out to keep the keyboard. But I use it as storage for my laptop.😁 **please don’t judge my messy workstation 😂

This desk is designed so that you can install the sliding keyboard holder on either side of the desk, allowing for you to pick the proper side depending on the office set up and which side you want the monitor to sit. One side has drawers and a file cabinet for those hanging file holders. The other side, has a large bay for a desktop tower to be hidden away. Assembly of the desk was very straight forward and it's been engineered well, so it is easy to assemble. It does take time. From start to finish plan at least a couple hours for assembly. The appearance of the desk is exactly as you see it in the pictures. It looks fantastic. At this price point, with a do-it-yourself-assembled desk, you will not be disappointed. I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and how my home office has come together with it.

Was difficult to assemble and the draws are uneven. Otherwise it is very nice, strong and sturdy desk. The color is pretty. I recommend this product.
