Good rod.
Nice telescoping rod for trout, perch, etc. Medium-light action, good for casting small to medium lures. Very good value for the price. I use it for kayak fishing.

When a fisherman wants to buy his 5yo boy a first fishing rod this is kind of rod one should be looking for. For the price of $12 this rod beats any toy rod out there you get in a blister packaging. What was surprising to find out this is a rod I would easily be using myself in hiking trips to fish occasionally streams and ponds. The Light Action rating feels accurate, so one should be careful not to destroy it if hooked anything heavier than it can handle. Here is actual specs so it's easier to decrypt lousy description on the product page.Model: SBN-505L/TSPLength: 5'0", telescopicAction: LightLine weight: 2-6lbsLure weight: 1/16-1/8ozNote, that when expanding the rod you should not apply too much force, otherwise it will be very difficult to collapse in back. It's actually a general advise for any telescopic rod and occasionally you will need to use non-skid gloves to collapse a telescopic rod back, so make sure you always have a pair of such gloves with you.I've paired this rod with an underspin reel of smallest size for about $20 and got my son a solid fishing rod set for $32! And get it right - it only looks like a toy but it is a real kickass shiny set 8-)In case you were wondering, the reel I paired the rod with is underspin Daiwa US40XD-CP.

Great for my kids
I bought two of these for my daughters, along with trusty old Zebco 404s. It all went together well, extended easily, and once pulled tight enough, stayed in place for 2 hours of pond fishing. Good enough that I might take it on backpacking trips myself. Nice and light. The included cap is good protection.
