Cure for reflux and spit ups. Period!
It’s been YEARS since I wrote a product review here! That’s how AMAZING this product is. If you’re reading this, you’re as desperate as I was yesterday. I read all the reviews of this product before buying it. Shipped overnight and got it early in the morning. This has 100% stopped the terrible, and I mean horrible spit ups and reflux my 7 week old baby had. The first feeding using it still brought some thick spit up. Second feeding a tiny bit came just out the mouth. Since the third feeding there’s zero spit up. I can’t believe it! The bottle recommends starting slow so here’s we we do and is working, just typing it because this product is expensive and there’s no need to use so much when a tiny tiny bit of it just does its magic: We have a bottle warmer always on at 108F and a glass container (dollar tree cutips glass!) with water always warm. We mix a little under the line that the measuring cup has (about 1/3 of the scoop) into the prewarmed water. We have those metal small shake mixers in our glass Dr browns bottles. Shake this product with water and let it rest while we change her diaper. Then, we add two scoops of Bobbie formula (this is the thickest we’ve found -regular, not the organic) to make 4 oz of formula. We shake well. By the time we sit down and have baby ready to eat, the formula has thickened to the consistency of what I would compare to pineapple juice (you know how it’s thicker than apple juice!?). This amount is just perfect for our daughter. No need to add any more. We read ALL the reviews and decided to use a probiotic as well to make sure her gas and bowels are on point while using this product. Instead of doing the probiotic once a day (5 drops) we do one drop per feeding 5 times a day so space the use of probiotic throughout feedings. She regularly poops once a day and today she didn’t poop so I’m hoping this does t get her constipated. Will update the review in a few days. Don’t hesitate and stop questioning everything you do and what to try. Just give this product a try

Life Saver for Twins with Reflux!!!
This product has been a miracle worker for my twin babies! It can be mixed with formula or with breastmilk. My twins were spitting up, honestly could’ve been classified as vomiting though, with every bottle. Our GI specialist had us switch from breastmilk to formula, to Alimentum, and eventually to EleCare which is completely broken down for a babies tummy to not have to digest. Still, we didn’t get a handle on the reflux. We tried Pepcid, we tried oatmeal, we tried reflux sit up protocols, and a variety of other things. During a hospital stay for weight gain, our doctor had us try thickening with Gelmix. It immediately made a difference. It only has a couple of ingredients, it’s safe, and it makes the bottles consistently the perfect consistency, and helps my twins eat without spitting up some or all of their bottles. We’ve been using this for 3 months now and we’ve tried transitioning to oatmeal as a thickener but my twins just do so much better with this. I’m so thankful for this product! As for cons, it isn’t covered by insurance and I can’t order it through a pharmacy or find it in store. I can only order it, but thanks to amazons subscription option, that isn’t too much of a problem.

This might be your “fix” for reflux
I never write reviews anymore, but this one deserves it. If you are struggling with reflux due to highly hydrolysized formula this is worth the try. My baby has a cows milk protein allergy and is on Nutramigen for formula. Thankfully the formula solved the lower GI issues/mucus, but created a whole other issue as it is so thin. This product seems to have solved it. For the first time, my daughter slept a 6 hour stretch (9 weeks) and was happy all day long. I’m actually on edge because there has been so much crying the last two months, I feel like it is too good to be true. She went from refusing to eat after an oz and a half (she would start “coughing”) to 4 ounces immediately, We use a glass Dr brown bottle to heat 4 oz of milk to 100 degrees, then add in 1 scoop, we mix with a fritter, wait the 5 minutes, and then pour into her Mam bottle. I hope this review helps someone!

Doctor approved
Our pediatrician recommended this product for our baby who was suffering from constant reflux, especially at night—and it made such a difference! After using this to thicken her breast milk, we noticed a huge improvement. The reflux episodes stopped, and she was finally able to sleep more comfortably. We simply warmed her breast milk, sprinkled in the powder, gave it a good shake, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. It’s incredibly easy to use. The individual packets are super convenient, and you can adjust the amount to get the consistency you need. It’s definitely worth the price for the peace of mind it gave us. If your baby struggles with reflux, this product is a must-try!

Life-Saving for Reflux, but Watch the Gas & Weaning Process
If you are on an amino acid formula (which is notoriously thin) and dealing with projectile vomiting, this is one of the only options that actually works. We used it to manage our baby’s severe reflux, and it did stop the spit-up and reflux. However, it is not a "perfect" product—there are significant trade-offs. The Good: Zero Calories: Unlike rice cereal, this doesn't add extra calories or "bulk" to the diet, which was important for our feeding plan. Allergen-Free: It contains no common allergens, making it safe for babies on specialized formulas. Effectiveness: It effectively thickened the thin formula and significantly reduced the projectile vomiting and reflux episodes. The Not-So-Good: Mixing Issues: This is very clumpy. You have to shake the bottle vigorously to break down the chunks. The Gas Trade-off: All that shaking introduces tons of air bubbles. Our baby’s gas became much worse after starting this, which is a tough battle when you're already dealing with reflux. The "Weaning" Hazard: Be careful when stopping! Because the baby gets used to the "slow" flow of thick liquid, moving back to thin liquids can cause choking as they have to "re-learn" how to swallow correctly. Verdict: It’s a necessary tool for severe reflux, but use the smallest amount possible and be prepared for some extra gassiness.

Saved us! Also here’s some tips for parents using it
We love it, helps our baby from aspirating on breastmilk. The ONLY downside is the price, we go through it in 4-5 days and need it medically for our baby. But it really does work as intended and has probably saved our little one, so we are very thankful for it. TIPS TO MAKE (for anyone wondering that also uses pumped breastmilk): • heat up (in bottle warmer) to 100 degrees - do not go over 115 in temp. • put in gelmix - we do one full scoop per ounce 5 oz=5 scoops • use milk frother - it won’t fully combine with breastmilk without one - shaking does not fully work or combine so it can be uneven in thickness. • after mixed with frother - put back on warmer for 5-10 mins to fully thicken - we found this really helped us get the right consistency • you can pre-thicken feeds and put in the fridge after but it will get extra thick - you could put extra unthickened milk in and froth to get the desired consistency.

foreign contaminant
Dear Parapharma Tech Team, I am filing a serious safety complaint regarding Gelmix Infant Thickener. I purchased a new pack on September 5, 2025 from Amazon (Gelmix seller). After the very first use, my premature infant son began vomiting persistently throughout the day and was unable to keep anything in his stomach for more than 5–10 minutes. This reaction was extremely concerning and required medical attention. Upon inspecting the product, I discovered a metallic particle inside. When tested with a magnet, the particle was magnetic, confirming it is a foreign contaminant. Product Details: Product: Gelmix Infant Thickener Lot Number: 2410003 Expiration Date: 02/2027 Place of Purchase: Amazon (Gelmix seller) Adverse Reaction: Persistent vomiting and refusal to eat in a premature infant immediately after first use of the new pack. This is an extremely serious issue for an infant product. I am urgently requesting: 1. An immediate investigation into this contamination. 2. Instructions on how to return the product for testing. 3. Assurance that affected batches will be addressed to prevent harm to other infants. I am retaining the product and packaging and am prepared to provide them for your investigation or share them with regulators. I will also be reporting this incident to the FDA’s MedWatch program. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and advise on next steps as soon as possible. Sincerely, Mennatallah Yehia

Great product! No flavor, dissolves easily.
This is awesome! It ends up costing me about $75 to $100 a month for one infant who needs mildly-thick to thick liquids. But ultimately it's worth it. Same price here as at the pharmacy but free delivery and I don't have to drive 30 minutes to get it. So I'd say this is the best place to purchase. There are other cheaper gel mixes out there but they are not marketed for infants and this is what the swallow therapist recommends. I'm super happy with it. There is no notiicable flavor and it dissolves in formula easily. We use "similac for spit up" (the bright green lid) which is a little thicker than regular formula and it still mixes in really well. We use about 2½ scoops for every 6 oz of formula. The scoop comes with the canister. The directions are simple and easy to understand. You will quickly learn to use it as a guide and adjust the amount of gel powder to add in to make the perfect thickness for your baby's needs. It also disolves in warm baby food just fine. It takes 5 minutes to fully thicken, so I recommend using a bottle warmer. I usually pre-mix the formula and put it in the warmer, then add the gel mix 5 minutes before it's time to feed the babies. Keep in mind, this one does need to be in warm milk or food to activate and thicken. Our swallow therapist said that there are some that can dissolve in cold liquid, but we don't need that yet. Side note: I recommend buying two canisters at once. They go faster than you think. One time I ran out and the pharmacy was also out. I had to put baby rice cereal in the food processor, mix it with formula, then puree it again for every single bottle while I waited for the gel mix to arrive in the mail. Not exactly an ideal process. Thank heavens someone invented gel thickener! Hope this helps!
