Ecobee Extended Smart Thermostat - works great!
Our Ecobee Extended Smart Thermostat replaced a Honeywell/Resideo T9 that never worked properly or consistently. It would lose connectivity to our wi-fi and Honeywell’s own servers once a week, so we constantly had to physically pull it off the wall to reset it and re-program it. After six months of this and a fruitless six months of once-a-week calls to Honeywell/Resideo tech support, we finally gave up and installed the Ecobee Extended Smart thermostat. Installation was simple. Setup and configuration were easy and quick. It is accurate and has not once lost connectivity. Very responsive through the Ecobee app and well as Apple’s HomeKit and Siri.

Does the simple things well
Installation was fairly easy with good step by step instructions and comprehensive enough for a wide range of wiring configurations. Has many features but among the things I find the most valuable is its fairly attractive with a nice screen and simple interface. There is quick access to manual control of common things like fan and temp. The outside temp and inside humidity display is handy. Reports of heating and cooling usage over time are useful. Remote control and monitor using their app or HomeKit works great and easy to set up. It does take some time to install especially if you have a non-standard situation. I had to call their support to handle a confusing wiring issue and support was great.

Impressed HVAC tech
Hvac service tech (residential, commercial, industrial in that order) Very nice product I’m very pleased with its appearance and functionalityWanted to let other reviewers know there’s a thing called an anticipator in most stats (which protects against overheating and cooling tricks the stat so that it does what it’s supposed to do) that will skew your measurements between an operating thermostat and a thermometerAnyway this thing packs in a ton of functionality and coupled with rebates and incentives like lower cost utility rates it pays for itself - I don’t like the price of the smart sensors for the doors and windows but I’ll manage without them I suppose. Also not sure about the remote sensors as my system isn’t a zoned system so I can’t see how that would work well honestly. Maybe it’s magic idk will have to buy one to test.Installed relatively easily even with the device that lets me rob a common wire from the air handler (furnace for some of you) I think I had one hooked up in the wrong place but a quick swap and she fired right up - not sure about heat pump application cause I’m on straight ac gas furnace. I’m sure it’d be fine though.Update:I did purchase smart door and window sensors but they require a subscription to keep them active… that’s really lame cheers ecobee. Another thing I really don’t care for is that there is no humidity control, so great for Southern California not great for South Carolina… for my new house in Tennessee I’m going with a pi stat so that I can put all the function in that I need mainly lower fan speed to dehum and a larger deadband so that the unit has less starts (better for the motors) - it ends up being most efficient after it’s removed latent heat (humidity) which also is better for your house also. Then once the humidity is within an acceptable range 30-50% rh then you can switch the low speed fan relay to a high speed I prefer really low rh in summer (as low as I can get it without reheat) so I never end up with it back on high speed for the fan. Keep your coils clean and filters changed! :)

Replacement thermostat
My 12-yr-old thermostat finally gave out and I wanted to get another of the same. My local HVAC company no longer carries this brand. There are no other suppliers within 100 miles of me. I contacted the thermostat company but they don't sell online or direct to public. I not only like this thermostat for the many options it has, but I like that it has subscription-free remote access via a nice app and also their website. So, I bought the Ecobee Enhanced. I have simple wiring so install was very quick. The Ecobee app and the webpage are good for remote control. I am not using the two occupancy sensors just yet. In fact, I have dumbed down everything on the Ecobee and it is just on heating hold mode with one temperature right now. As a dumb thermostat it's working fine. I don't have a need for all the programming options right now but am eager to see how they compare to my old thermostat when I do. The old unit was the bomb.I give the Ecobee four stars instead of five for a couple of minor reasons:1) My thermostat is in a narrow hallway. I liked walking by my old thermostat and seeing the standby screen with weather, indoor temp, and time. If I wanted to adjust it, I just needed to touch the screen first to 'wake it up'. The Ecobee has a similar standby screen, but it's not possible for me to see it LOL As soon as the Ecobee 'senses' someone coming near it switches the display. This is a big complaint from others as well. There is even a Reddit thread, "Sneaking up on my Ecobee..." LOL I do wish the company would make leaving the standby screen on display as an option. 99 times out of 100 I'm just walking by and not going to adjust anything.2) The Ecobee website does not offer the option to leave me logged in so I can quickly access the thermostat's settings. Many websites ask, on a private device, to remember for some period like 30 days. My old thermostat's webpage was that way. Not Ecobee's, I have to login every time no matter how many times a day I access it. I also cannot bookmark the exact settings page I want like I could with my old thermostat, always have to enter from the main screen.If/when I start using programmed modes again this will be a lot more painful. I am on my computer all day long so it's easier for me to bookmark and hop to a webpage quickly for everything I do. I really don't want to have to pull out my phone and call up an app. Not the end of the world, but website could be a lot more friendly.

WiFi is a must
I love my ecobee. I’m always changing the temp in our house on my phone and it’s so convenient. Great for vacations with the vacation settings. I also use it at night if we are too hot or cold and don’t have to get out of bed. More sleep is a happier family.
