A must have. Game changer for Achilles rupture health.
This Achilles rupture night splint is a must for anyone who went through surgery or a conservative approach. It keeps you in a plantar flex position and allows you to have a good night's sleep, which is essential for healing. I'd recommend this 10000% and the price is worth it.I have the Vacoped boot and it is still warm and uncomfortable at night, so with this splint you get the best of both worlds: comfortable boot for walking and the splint for lounging/sleeping.Thank you Thetis Medical!!

You need this for a good nights sleep!
Ruptured Achilles is hard. And recovery is very long. I’ve never had “total bed rest” before. This night brace as been a savior: I can sleep and rest comfortably. It is light, cool and easy to put on.Far preferable to (not) sleeping in The Boot. Sleep is critical to recovery. It’s not cheap, but worth the price for a well designed niche medical product. Other reviewers have some negative comments about design and comfort. I don’t agree. Strapping a sensitive injured foot into a brace is not a usual thing and some minor strap adjustments relieved discomfort.I did consult with my Orthopedic Surgeon, as Thetis recommended. Since my surgeon also has an MA in engineering, after the caveats about not “touching down”, gave approval.2 weeks post surgery I’ve combined the Thetis night brace with the IWalk Hands Free crutch around the house. I can cook, clean, carry stuff in both hands and be a little less of an imposition on my spouse. Still use The Boot when I have to “gimp out” to run unavoidable errands. Prior to this injury I was very active, with decent balance and leg strength. All necessary for the above combination. Finally: be patient. Recovery from an Achilles Rupture takes time.

Great idea, but too pricey and poorly executed.
IN SHORT: This splint is a great idea. It is light and holds your foot in the appropriate downward position and helps you sleep more comfortably. Unfortunately, the straps are poorly designed causing unnecessary pressure on your tendon and calf muscle, which at this price, cannot be forgiven.REVIEW: This splint was a life saver. I ruptured my left Achilles tendon a few weeks ago and was given a medical boot. As many of you know, a medical boot is heavy and clunky. It was causing me to develop knee pain especially while sleeping. It was also kind of gross sleeping with a dirty boot that had been all over the floor.PROS: The boot is light and well designed, keeping my foot in the proper downward position. I immediately slept more comfortably and within a few days eliminated my knee pain. The materials seem sufficiently good for a simple item like this. The padding on the inside is soft but sturdy and it extends beyond the outer shell which prevents the harder material from pressing against your leg. It comes with three straps, two permanently sewn into the splint and one that is separate. The top strap goes around the calf and the bottom one goes around the arch and sole. The middle strap, which is not sewn in, goes around the heel and has a split in the center to fit your heel into. The material of the straps is on par with that of other straps. All straps attach with Velcro. It is not recommended you walk with this splint on. It is only for sleeping.CONS: I'm not a big guy per se, but definitely bigger than the average person. I originally ordered a small by mistake. When I first put it on I noticed it felt really tight around the bottom of my calf where it meets the Achilles tendon (top strap). This was not good, you do not want pressure on that area. It should fit snug, but never tight. I quickly realized my mistake and ordered the large one. It was physically much larger (see pictures). Unfortunately, the straps themselves are the same size for both splints (see pictures). This is the first major design flaw. The small splint wrapped around where the calf met the Achilles tendon, the large splint wraps around the calf muscle itself. Since the strap is not larger it ends up being even tighter than the smaller splint. The second design flaw is that the straps themselves are designed to make pressure through stretching which is not ideal. It is better for them to be adjustable like the straps on medical boots. This leads me to the most important con which is price. This splint costs $59.99. At this price point, it should at the very least have adjustable straps. Not to mention they didn't even care enough to provide larger straps on the larger model.TO THE MAKER: You have unique product with potential. Despite the flaws, I decided to keep the splint since there isn't another one like it on the market. I use one of the adjustable straps from my boot instead of the super tight one on the splint. If you redesign the splint with adjustable straps you'll have a winner on you hands.

Great for Achilles Tear Recovery Too!
While I did not have a complete rupture of my achilles, I did have surgery to repair a small tear and tendonosis and found this brace to be extremely helpful during my recovery. This was my second time having the surgery and I really wish I’d known about this brace the first time around as it’s been a fantastic alternative to wearing the boot for sleeping. I showed it to my surgeon before purchasing just to make sure and he approved right away. Makes me wonder why they don’t proactively recommend it honestly as wearing a walking boot while trying to sleep isn’t great. This brace fit well and is infinitely more comfortable, which allowed me to sleep well and to keep my bedsheets clean. The only downside for me is the heel strap placement is right over my incision so I have to cover the incision with extra bandages but it’s not a huge deal. I would highly recommend this!

This thing is pricey but worth it.
I am cheap and I don’t expect to tear my right Achilles again - this was a hard purchase for me to stomach but I am so glad I decided to pull the trigger.Sleeping in a boot or ER splint was very uncomfortable and kind of gross, this splint is simple and works very well - I sleep so much better with it. Be prepared to have to play around with positioning a bit to get the most comfortable set up for the first time using it.You’ll be glad to have this when it’s time to go to bed.

Didn’t work for me
It’s good that this works for other people, but it didn’t work for me. I found it significantly less comfortable than sleeping in my boot. The issue is that the angle of the foot cannot be adjusted. And the brace forced my toes to be pointed down farther than my boot does. It felt like my foot was hyperextended and I woke up with significant pain in my leg. It was uncomfortable as soon as I put it on, but I left it on the whole night hoping it would get better. It didn’t. I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the product is well made and seems like it would work well for some people.
