These fans run strong, order one size smaller than you normally would
Very powerful for its size and current draw, which is a good thing as I normally have issues with fans this size being inadequate. For the first time in this barren wasteland of a scorching hot desert I call home, I'm using a fan setting other than "max."Don't get me wrong, it doesn't have the surface area to move large amounts of air (so don't count on it being an air blower/extractor) but it certainly excels in delivering a focused stream of high velocity air for personal use (read: one person, and directly to the face). So I ended up dimming it to 75% of its low-speed setting which moved enough air and made very little sound (a very slight motor hum if you have 20/20 hearing, which could be user error as my dimmer clearly says "lamps only").I still would have to knock it down one star on the noise level, as it is much louder than anticipated. Do keep in mind my frame of reference here is a 30" old-school Panasonic pedestal fan that is absolutely silent on low (and extremely effective) but is far too heavy and takes too much space. But when I'm looking the smallest size fan of a long line of options, I assumed quiet meant exactly that. The sound is not a faint "white noise" hum but more along the tone of a distant hair dryer on low. Am I being too picky? That's why I bought this and not a Walmart special for a fraction of the price, which btw, is quieter than this fan too.The front grill was rattling upon delivery (one of the mounting tabs needed to be bent, and they're not easy to bend! So I'm not sure how it missed QA/QC as everything else on the fan is absolutely solid, so I didn't have the heart to rate it any less than 5 on sturdiness and chalk off the rattling grill to my bad luck) so I ended up removing it as I found that it distracted from the clean design of the body which is why I was drawn to the Vornado Mini Classic to begin with. I then sharpied in a white spiral on the fan blade center to complete the aircraft jet engine look (which I couldn't un-see every time I look at the profile of my white colored fan with the front grill off) and of course, so ground personnel unaware of a running fan with no front protection don't get any...err...injuries? At the speed I'm running it at (75% of low speed) you can stop the blades with your fingers without feeling a thing (that or I have no nerve endings on my fingers).Pro-tip: If you're in the unlikely case that you need to make this fan weaker (as there is no smaller size than this in the Classic range, this is the smallest!) you can remove the rear cone-piece that helps duct incoming air to the more efficient areas of the blade (source: user manual) this will make the air-stream diffuse a bit and may knock down the strength of it to your liking. It's worth noting that I use this fan just for airflow in an air conditioned room set to just a hair shy of pneumonia degrees F.All in all, this is a great problem to have, as you can easily choke excess fan performance but you can't overclock it if it's not powerful enough to begin with. And it looks beautiful!

Wow, a quality product.
This little fan surprised me with the superior quality compared to cheaper fans. It's also very attractive. For a relatively small fan, it's more powerful than I expected. It's made of metal, not plastic and heavy enough to be very stable. The noise level on the high setting while not loud ,is noticeable. The low setting is more like white noise.I have a large room Vornado fan that's at least 20 years old and still works better than anything on the market today. I expect this little one to perform as well.

Just the right size for one
I had the larger version of this fan which lasted for many years. It finally gave up the ghost and I decided to try this personal-sized version. It’s really fantastic! I love the vintage style, the fact that it’s constructed in metal—not plastic. It’s small enough to take with you from room to room when concentrating on heat-producing tasks like ironing or cooking. The fan appears durable and should last for years. It’s not cheap looking, yet the price is affordable. I find it extremely powerful despite its small size.—I hardly ever use the highest setting. It will keep you cool in bed without making you feel as if you’re freezing (although I actually need to turn it off at some point—it’s that powerful!). I recommend it to anyone who wants to stay comfortably cool without blasting the air conditioning to an uncomfortable, frigid temperature.

Great fan, but some can rattle.
[Edit 1/1/19] I'm upgrading the rating to four stars as I bought another one of these and it does not rattle. So out of three of these fans, two do not rattle at all while one did (which I returned).Got this for my desk as it gets warm in summer even in Seattle. I love the compact size, the metal build, the retro design, the simple toggle switch, and the decent air flow it puts out. It's rather loud on the high speed but it's okay. The reason for 3/5 stars is that the thing rattles intermittently. It's on a stable/flat surface and it started to rattle from the first time I turned it on (after a few minutes) but then went away, only to return a couple hours later. It's not very loud but it's annoying and very audible since it's on the desk and therefore relatively close to me. It is not always there but has come and gone for the few days I've owned it. I bought a green one first and it did that the first couple minutes but it never came back but this one is bothersome enough that I'll have to return it unfortunately. No sure if I want to risk it with another one.

Nicely styled, works great, NOT plastic
Mini Classic Personal Vintage Air Circulator FanAfter reading the reviews here I took a chance that I might like this fan, even though someone said it was made of plastic. It is not plastic, but rather sturdy metal throughout. The blades may be plastic but I don't really care about that.I almost didn't buy it because i didn't want plastic. Other models might be plastic, but rest assured that the model I described above is, in fact, metal. For its size it moves a lot of air. I use a small fan at my bedside because I don't sleep well if air is not moving. Other fans I've purchased rattle or move around too much because they are too light, etc. But the fact that this is, in fact, metal means that it has enough weight to stay in place and not rattle against the motion of the blades. It is not quite as quiet as the all-plastic one that I had, but that one had parts that would rattle against one another if positioned in a certain way. This is more like white noise which I don't think will disturb my husband at night.I really love the retro styling on this, as well. We are building a new addition and I'm putting nice furniture in the new bedroom; this will fit well with the decor. The fan tilts up and down but does not pivot, however it's light enough that you can just pivot the whole thing so that's really not a problem.
