Emotional support when needed!
This was one of the first books I purchased, having days where I was so frustrated being diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic. I was 60, and felt like I was doing all the right things for my health. Eating healthy, a runner, at the gym, not over weight. Why did I end up with this disease. Book has been great for emotional support.

Great resource for living with challenges of type 1 diabetes!
This book is a wonderful resource for coping and thriving with type 1 diabetes. It is accessible, easy to understand and contains great examples. Even better is that the author has a personal narrative about his own relationship over the years of living with type 1 dm. So many are struggling with burnout as we move out of the pandemic, so would highly recommend this book (and his podcast!)

Great read
Mark does an excellent job capturing and detailing the emotional challenges of T1D in a down to earth, yet knowledgable fashion and provides real-world, practical tools to support coping with the emotional challenges for PWDs. I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling or supporting someone struggling with the challenges of diabetes.

Great T1D Book
Having Type 1 for a few years, this book was very helpful in reflecting on the mental and emotional challenges that arise but are usually not discussed. The feelings that many of us face are normalized in this book and there are practical tools on how to address them, or sometimes accept. I've read a number of books on Type 1 and many have tools on how to manage the physical aspects of the disease (blood glucose, working out, etc.) but this book has a new perspective, and Dr. Mark Heyman is uniquely qualified to teach others. I'm asking my wife and parents to read this book to better understand the type of life someone with T1D may experience, and how they can support. If you've been newly diagnosed, have lived most of your life with diabetes, or have a someone you care about with Type 1, please read this book.

You can handle T1D
This book is a must for type 1 diabetics and anyone who wants to support a T1D. Each chapter is organized in a manner that allows you to use the book as a reference in the future as diabetes isn't a linear progression and everyone has their own struggles with diabetes. Sometimes it feels overwhelming and this book is a strong reminder that as a T1D we aren't alone and we can handle diabetes and everything it throws at us.

Dr. Mark’s Book Applies to Everything!
Diabetes Sucks is a comforting book to read, but not only for people with Diabetes. The style is written in a way that makes you feel as if you are having a personal chat with Dr. Mark.Because the author experienced Diabetes as a young college student, he GETS IT. He has specific, personal stories to share as well as examples from his clients.I liked how Dr. Mark applies Mindfulness to his strategies, because this can be used in any stressful situation, not just illness.I ended up purchasing multiple copies, so that I could pass the book on to friends. Very helpful information within.

Normalizes the struggle
Love how the author normalizes the struggle of T1D. As a T1D of 25 years, and a diabetes specific therapist, I thoroughly appreciated this read.

Be mindful of misprints on Amazon
The media could not be loaded. It's really difficult to read backwards.

Great resource for people living with T1D
Lately I’ve found myself really struggling with anxiety related to my chronic illness and I was desperately looking for something to help me navigate my declining mental headspace. I found this book by watching an interview with Mark Heyman on the Diabetes Strong YouTube channel; the timing was impeccable! It’s a very digestible read, full of constant reminders that we can do hard things and thrive with this condition, but never forgetting the challenges along the way as to not diminish them or our feelings/experiences.It’s already helped me and I believe it to be a valuable resource for anyone living with T1D, or even diabetes in general. I’m going to have to go back and re-read certain chapters depending on the challenges I face, since they change as we grow, and the fact that the brain is very stubborn to rewire and requires work to change!Highly recommend.

This book will save/change lives
T1D’s we know representation is difficult to find. The author of this book lives with T1D and serves as a clinician working directly with T1D patients. Those with T1D understand how rare & valuable it is to have a first-voice professional working with T1D patients who understands and ‘gets it’. This disease is isolating and creates mental health concerns as a result of managing day to day living with T1D. My hope is that Dr. Mark will cultivate a T1D community with this book & his podcast. Recommend it to every T1D you know or tell your endo or nurse! I wish I had this when I was diagnosed. It’s important & It’s a resource that I will continue to return to as a source of support. Thank you Dr. Mark for your valuable work & service to our community.

This book should be part of the standard of care for all T1D's!!
I received an advance copy of Dr. Mark's book "Diabetes Sucks and You can handle it. Dr. Mark's new book fills the void of how to manage the emotional challenges of living day to day with diabetes. It is refreshing to read a book written by a health care professional who lives with diabetes and gets it! His book is written in an easy to understand format, full of examples, strategies and moments to pause and consider. One key takeaway: "Work to get a handle on the things about T1D you can control, let go of things you cannot control, and be mindful of the difference". This book will become a well used resource - one that I will re-read often. Well done, Dr. Mark!
