Alfred's Teach Yourself to Play Electronic Keyboard: Everything You Need to Know to Start Playing Now! (Teach Yourself Series)

When I was little, my grandma had a baby grand piano. It was beautiful and I loved hearing her play. She would give us grandkids lessons and I remember being able to do basic things and a few songs. Nothing special. I knew someday I’d want to learn more but I grew up and our first born son was diagnosed with Autism (fully functional) and it was recommended we get a piano because I guess a lot of Autism kids do well with learning musical instruments. I didn’t want something to overwhelm him. I saw this and thought I’d see how he, and the rest of the family, does.I feel like it focuses more on the right hand than the left hand, and I feel like it goes into more advanced songs a little quicker than some would like, but over all it’s a good book. It has A LOT of information in it. Most basic, some a little more, but it keeps people moving along at a nice speed and keeps their attention. I think the font is fine- I don’t see it being too big or too small. It came to me in perfect condition. This would be great for older kids, teens and adults. Little kids might do well but it depends on what the parent thinks the child can do and handle. I bought piano stickers to help my kids learn what key is what and I think this book compliments that. I think it’s a great book and I feel like it’ll definitely help a lot of people, young or old.

Got this to try to learn the keyboard for me grandchild. It's pretty basic.

If you have learned or studied some music theory then this book is OK. If you haven't you might get lost in the theory as the book "presumes" that you know some theory. The lesson plans are good and I believe that by the time you get all the way through the book you would know how to play keyboard. I am taking lessons from a piano teacher as well as using this book, and I have some music theory training. If theory is completely new to you then I would suggest a keyboard book in the "For Dummies" line; or find someone who can explain basic theory to you. It does help to have some theory knowledge as it helps with rhythm & tempo in your playing.

I take piano lessons. Book is an extra benefit while learning.

Our 14 year old daughter received a digital keyboard for Christmas. This was one of 5 books we purchased to go with it.She absolutely loves it. Easy step by step instructions. She has been a part of Concert Choir for years so she is very comfortable reading music.But has never played piano before.With in a few days she was putting on mini "concerts" for us.Great book. A must for anyone wanting to learn to play.

It has a straight forward way of explaining how to use the keyboard. I am looking forward to exploring and be able to use my keyboard with all it’s capabilities.

As a new owner of an electronic keyboard who has been away from playing any instrument for decades (I had about eight years of piano instruction as a child and teenager), I spent some time looking for an instructional book that would teach me to play using the capabilities of the keyboard. Most of the samples I looked at were really just warmed-over piano instructional books, with a token nod to electronic keyboards. This book, on the other hand, fully explores the capabilities of the keyboard as an aid to teaching, and the lessons are presented in a logical progression. Music theory is introduced at appropriate times to aid the learning process, instead of being presented as a separate, dry subject. I'm halfway through the book and I'm very happy wth my musical progress so far. I really recommend this book for the beginner who wants a gentle and fun introduction to their keyboard.

Good introduction

This is a great introduction for beginners on the keyboard. There's a good balance of practical playing and some excellent music theory which is introduced in a gradual way.

Couldn’t find anywhere another book that teaches beginners how to use the full capacity of keyboard with all its rhythm and tone accompaniments.

This is one of the better teaching tools for learning the keyboard. Easy to understand in plain language. It is downloaded to my Kindle which makes it easy to access while working on the keyboard.

Early days with this teach yourself keyboard book but so far it is easy to follow and with patience and practice, I'm sure we could be good enough for Britain's got talent in a few years time.
