Wow I don't know what happened. I've had this bowl for about 8 months and been happy with it.. Hand washed it in lukewarm water after each use, hand dried it right after that. I've always kept this bowl away from heat and kept it dry. I noticed a weird sewer smell coming from my cabinet two days ago. I thought it was just the sink because I hadn't run any water into it for awhile. I noticed it again yesterday when I was getting something out of the cabinet but couldn't identify the source. Today I went to use the bowl. Grabbed it out of the cabinet, walked away from the sink and then realized I was still smelling sewer. Turns out it was the bottom of the bowl. Nothing was visibly wrong with it, no changes in how it looked or felt. I washed the bowl immediately, didn't help. I washed it for several minutes. Still didn't help. What ever was causing the smell wasn't ON the bowl, it was coming FROM the bowl. I checked the cabinet and the smell was gone from there. Plus everything was bone dry. The smell really is coming from the bow and not from anything else in the cabinet. Threw it away immediately.

This bowl is exactly as described. What isn't mentioned is that this bowl has some heft to it. It feels very good in the hand. The contrast of barely polished rough exterior and the smoothly polished inside is a tactile and visual delight.

This piece combines beauty with the warmth and rustic finish of something discovered, personal and with its own story. Horn has been "having a moment" and is often seen gleaming somewhere in a a beautifully staged, merchandised home decor magazine or catalog. It all looks very polished and luxe - and makes for pretty pictures. The look and feel of the AleHorn craftsmanship is NOT the mall version of "authenticity". I think it is made for each individual, whether they know it or not. I didn't' stumble across it in some exotic market but it is unique and feels made and "found" for me in much the same way. Already perched on my desk, it looks like that is exactly where it belongs. Whether functional or for its own purpose, it is exactly what I was looking for. As much a feeling as an "object". I will always look for new AleHorn finds in future and highly recommend that you would do well to take a look, too.
