Very natural
I love this approach to feeding babies. I actually had thought of doing something similar with my baby, but I did not know how exactly. I posted a question about it in a social online group, and someone mentioned this. They told me to look up their facebook page which I did and found that this was just what I wanted to do. I got the book and I loved it. Yes, like many review say, it is a bit repetitive, since it is a lot of the same thing. But they break it down to make different points. However, repetitive or not, it is great to have the thoughts, ideas, testimonials, and suggestion in printed form. If there's something I need to know, or I am not sure about, I can just go back and find the right spot in the book. Another thing I would recommend, would be to join the facebook page, since mothers using BLW support and give advice to other women, also using/learning this method. I found that a lot of the questions on their FB page can be answered by reading the book, so don't try the easy way out and do buy the book if you're interested in BLW.The book is a very easy read, and I love reading the testimonials. I am not quite done with it, and I take it everywhere with me. I also ordered the BLW cookbook. I am still waiting for that one to arrive. I can't wait, since I am not the best at having good variety in our diet. I am sure it has great ideas to introduce a good variety of healthy foods to my little one.

Skip the Purees. Do This!!
We started BLW with our twins at six months (as recommended by the book), after a couple of weeks of fiddling with purees. Now our twins are nearly a year old and, thanks to this book, they are great eaters. You still have to prepare food for them and clean up, but it feels easier than purees. And the twins really seem to enjoy it. The book says this approach is often used more with breastfed babies, but our twins were formula fed and had no problems getting the hang of this. Everyone who heard that we were doing this early on was secretly worried that they might choke or was skeptical that the kids could actually feed themselves, but once they saw it in action they all thought it was great. Many times they'd say, "I wish I'd known about this when my kids were little."A lot of food gets tossed overboard, so you just have to let that be part of the process. Clean up is much easier if you have a dog or two around. If you need more ideas for what to feed them, get the companion cookbook. It has lots of great, easy recipes. Also, don't think you have to follow this approach to the letter. While the book gives lots of great advice on how to go about this, it does say not to spoon feed them anything. However, I've spoonfed them things that I would eat with a spoon myself, such as applesauce and yogurt, and it hasn't seemed to have hindered the process at all.

We love BLW!
Great book. I listened to most of it so I could fit reading into my busy schedule. We started some BLW around age 4.5 months because she was sitting up on her own, grabbing for food and slowly offered more food starting at 6 months. She loves food! Eats what we eat. No fuss, no problem. She is now 11 months old and still nurses regularly and eats a variety of different foods. Just yesterday she was chowing down on some homemade kale chips. At first, the gagging is a bit scary but once you read and understand that babies gag reflex is different and how BLW is a safe and natural way to explore foods, you come to find out that gagging is a wonderful safety mechanics that their body already knows and then teaches their brain how they should handle food in their mouth. It's a phase our baby got over very quickly and learned how to chew and move food in her mouth without gagging.I think the best part of this book was it took a lot of the worries out. Most if not all of her nutritan comes from milk and food is just for fun. Let her explore, taste, play, and eat with the family and quite stressing about "filling her tummy" full of purees. The only thing I didn't care about the book was at times it seemed very repetitive and a bit long to understand blw. Like honestly, I probably could have just read some blogs instead of buying the whole book.

Love, love, love!!
To this day, at every single meal, my husband and I look at each other and say, "This is the best choice we've made as parents so far." We LOVE BLW!! My daughter eats anything and everything! I constantly just introduce mixtures of flavors and textures and she is hooked. We love the social aspect of BLW as well because it means we all sit, feed ourselves and enjoy meals together. I also would really recommend reading this book and getting the cookbook. I'm not the best cook, so the cookbook has simple, small portion (so if's horrible, I'm not too upset!) meals that introduce baby to all different kinds of flavors. We love it. Also, my parents and in-laws were totally horrified, but are now complete believers. We also love the "no waiting" when introducing new foods and have already done eggs, berries, wheat, etc.- everything that has potentials for allergens because BLW says to only be careful if there are allergies in your family. We also love how it creates a positive relationship to food and the "no stress" of it. We don't have to cook extra, just without salt, and if she eats, that's great, if not, i know she's getting enough from my breastmilk. My pediatrician is a full supporter too. A really cool thing I learned from a Speech Therapist friend after I had already started BLW is that it is a huge help in developing their jaw, speech, use of tongue, etc. The only thing that is tough is the clean up! But get yourself an EASY, SEAMLESS high chair (Stokke- w/o the tray and pulled right up to the table or a Bumbo seat with a tray- it can go right in the bath!) and it's a piece of cake.

Straight forward and encouraging!
This book educates in such a practical tone. I appreciate the straight-forward attitude and lack of sugar coating when it comes to parenting choices. I read this book before my first babe turned 6 months and am reading it again to prep BLW for my second babe. This book prepared me for BLW very well and I think it needs to be talked about more often so all families have the opportunity to feed their children naturally and happily.

Great book!
Very helpful and insightful. Also whenever my toddler throws food tantrums I go back to reading it and am reassured that what's happening is perfectly normal.
