Stephen King: A Complete Exploration of His Work, Life, and Influences : Vincent, Bev: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A great book for Steohen King fans - Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. This is a gloriously visual book. Whist not a real in depth volume for die hard King aficionados it is still informative and I learnt a lot of things I didn't know about the man and his writings. Definitely glad I bought this. Review: A treasure trove for fans and newcomers - A terrific overview of King's work and career, written in an easy to read and compelling style. Head and shoulders above most of what has been previously published about King's life, mainly because of how it manages to be exhaustive yet concise at the same time. A treasure trove for die-hard fans and newcomers alike.

Not as in-depth as I would have liked
I know Bev Vincent from his in-depth exploration of the Dark Tower saga, and I expected this to be similar. It isn't. It is aimed at the casual reader as it strolls through King's life and catalogue in, mostly, publication order, with frequent side-bars for things like Bachman, Boston Red Sox, his accident, collaborations etc. The book is interesting, entertaining, and well-researched throughout, and nicely illustrated - dust covers, original MS pages, film/TV stills, appropriate personal photos etc. There are invaluable lists at the end, and citations for much of the text. But that shows what this book could have been. Vincent knows his subject so thoroughly that this could have been the in-depth exploration the subject deserves. Instead it is an attractive, nicely presented coffee table book for the casual reader and, as such, it is perfect. But I wanted more.

Fantastic
This is wonderful and what I would call the definitive non-fiction guide to Stephen King. It takes us through all of Stephen King's published works (up to the year 2022), giving behind-the-scenes details, screen adaptation information, multiverse links, and many relevant quotes from the man himself. The way the author writes is very neutral (as in he's not inserting the idea that we should either love or dislike King or his work), but this is very clearly a love letter to King's career and stories because no one would put this much work into discussing someone's career unless they were a fan. It's a lovely, detailed piece of work. I like to consider myself somewhat of a King expert. I've read everything he's published, a tonne that's been written about him, and I've watched every available discussion, talk, and interview with him. And yet, I was delighted to find several things in these pages that I didn't know, particularly about screen adaptations of his work. Would highly recommend to King fans - there is no more comprehensive, interesting book about his work, in my opinion.

Excellent Read!
Great book. Very insightful and provides some detail into the what influences King to write these amazing stories. It’s only when reading this that you realise the vast volume of work that this guy has released upon the world.

Bev Vincent’s The Stephen King Ultimate Companion: A Complete Exploration of His Work, Life, and Influences reads like a text book chock full of quality facts based on Mr. King’s brilliant alternative fictions of horror, suspense, and my favorites on memoir and teaching craft. The cover fakes a worn classic in appearance at first glance. Though quality absent paper covering. Accents of typewriter fonts and blood spatter invite speculation of contents. Inside thick pages full of color photos to fun facts scattered throughout this joy ride of info unknown to me as a more recent fan since reading On Writing a few years ago. Since then consumed a couple dozen stories from horror to what vibes magical realism of suspense in the Billy Hodges Series. Hearing Mr. King’s story in his words made me curious to read about him from someone else’s assembling. Recently stumbled upon “Understanding the Dark Tower Universe” in a few minute video on YouTube. This fan’s explanation in visuals of the connection to Mr. King’s many stories toward the one developed over so many years woven in and out of his entire library of accomplishments gave me a whole new appreciation of what I’ve been missing as a novice of his brilliance. Growing up with literacy struggles never dreamed of experiencing Mr. King outside of movies. With the help of audio am able to mount the endurance challenges of series and The Stand. Adding intensity by increasing speed of the narrator adds to pacing and enjoyment especially on cross country road trips. If you enjoy facts and text book style reading bites at a time this will be a fantastic choice. If you prefer long chapters of words minute captions and headlines of original cover art to photos including everything the subtitle notes: a complete exploration of his work, life, and influences you might not enjoy this so much. For me, a complete exploration is a bit of a stretch on a man’s life that feels eternal. Like Queen Elizabeth can anyone remember life without Stephen King? Whether a reader and movie goer or not Mr. King is a part of the world we live. This book is a way to reminisce and learn unfamiliar details. For me, felt this would give me a broader view of someone I admire for his skill, authenticity, and creativity as a publisher author. Happy to have this on my shelf for review anytime. Hoping this review encourages consideration if you enjoy Mr. King or not. I find knowing about a writer adds to them as a published author and peaks interest. No doubt this book will for generations to come. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯
