great catch-up for old coder
I'd been coding in c++ for 2 decades until ~2005, then went full c#, now back to c++ so I needed an "upgrade". fortunatelly it's just like riding a bicycle. this book is great for *me*, clear about the new stuff but consise enough not to be boring.

Top notch. Perfect overview. Nice physical book too.
Best of category,. by the inventor of C++ no less. Well written. Clear. The physical book itself is great too. Clear type, good use of color.

An absolutely essential C++ text that could be made better
This is an absolutely essential text for anyone looking to achieve fluency in C++, and probably Stroustrup's most important. It succinctly goes over all the most important features that C++ offers, up through C++20, from the man most knowledgeable on the subject. As this really is an essential text, I hope that someone continues to write books just like this for upcoming standards like C++23 and beyond. That said, future versions could be improved. While Stroustrup is a very good writer, for a computer genius, he's not quite a *great* writer. From the perspective of someone fairly new to programming, Stroustrup sometimes writes examples that go over the head of the reader and aren't well explained, including concepts that haven't yet been introduced. Example code occasionally contains typos, which can be very confusing. Further, while the book touches on everything C++ *can* do, and how to do it, from a technical perspective, the reader is left wondering *why* someone might use such a feature. Including more brief, real-world examples of how these various concepts and features are used would be helpful in future versions.

Great book, must have for C++ programming
Great book for a C++ reference.

Great book for an update on C++; the right size, for the right audience
A bit disjointed, but straight to the point. On the one hand, this is how I wish more programming books were written: they assume the reader knows programming already and only needs to learn the topic at hand, rather than describing the universe from scratch before getting to its actual content. On the other hand, it jumps seemingly randomly between topics; sometimes with too much detail, sometimes with not enough; sometimes referencing things back and forth too much. As far as C++ books go, this is probably one of the best, and a mandatory read to keep up with modern C++ (even if it's aimed at C++20). I just wish it was more even.

Solid purchase
Arrived on time, as advertised, no issues. I am happy with the purchase. The concept presentation is at the pace I like and is complete. Great purchase.

If you’re looking to get up to speed with new C++ features, or trying to explore what the language and standard library have to offer, this is the book for you. The explanations in the book, though brief, are quite well written and geared towards the pragmatic use of the language. Even when you find yourself getting confused about something, you can ofter re-read the explanations and get a clear understanding of what the message is. The book is full of demonstrations of language/STL features, advice about what you should adopt, and warnings about what you should avoid. It’s safe to say that there is a lot of wisdom in this book, and now that I’m finished reading it, my highlighter feels a hundred grams lighter. If you’re a beginner, or looking for a book that can help you gain hands-on experience with C++, this is not the book for you. Perhaps a good second book, though. :)
