Softgels make the difference with body absorption levels, 5000 mcg is more than enough.
I've had a B12 deficiency most of my life ... And in my older years age 40+ it does actually seem to exacerbate some issues I've been having with lower back cramping and spasms. If I keep my B12 levels up the cramping and spasm seem to happen far less and I can be a bit more mindful to avoid of them, so it's worth it to me. Otherwise the supplement makes no other noticeable difference, like with energy or mood or anything else. 5000 mcg daily is actually a bit of overkill as my blood test result show my B12 levels through the roof. I had taken B12 tablets in the past and they did not absorb well and injections from the doctors were a hassle to keep up with. Softgels to the rescue. I recently switched brands to a slightly lower dosage and price, may go back and forth between this one and the other as it really doesn't make a difference as you too much doesn't really cause any problems, just saving a few bucks. Have always had good results with Nature Made products.
