Learn how to make the best use of your Halogen Oven
I purchased the Halogen oven for my wife as she was trying to help us eat healthier and that meant moving away from fried foods. She really liked this little oven but wondered about how some of her recipes would work in it as the directions in most cookbooks were for conventional ovens and this oven is anything but conventional. It cooks things quicker. So, we purchase this cookbook and discovered lots of recipes that are very tasty and cook quickly with this new Halogen cooker. What was better was that as you read through it you get a good idea of how long items will take to cook in your new Halogen Oven and that makes it easier to translate those times to other recipes you have for conventional ovens.Overall we are very satisfied with this cookbook

Good, basic intro to halogen ovens
I was a little hesitant about purchasing this book given the mixed reviews. However, the kindle edition was very reasonably priced ($5.82) and I lived in Ireland so I reckoned I would both understand the measurements and the so-called strange ingredients and not be out of pocket too much if it didn't work out.It is a good recipe book, basic but with clear explanations and helpful hints about using a halogen oven. Some of the recipes, particularly in the first section on snacks are very English: Rarebit and welsh rarebit for instance. However strange the name, it should be remembered that they are simply toast with a type of cheese sauce. A bacon butty is a bacon sandwich. Rashers of bacon are bacon strips or Canadian bacon. Toad-in-the hole are sausages in a savory pancake batter. And you can substitute English muffins for crumpets. The strange ingredients are simply UK names for fairly common ingredients.Swede = Rutabaga. Turnip will also work.Aubergines = EggplantMarmite = yeast extract. It is intensely flavored. Miso can work as a substitute as can concentrated stock or a dash of soy or bragg's amino acidsIcing sugar = Confectioners sugarCastor sugar = superfine sugarPlain flour = All purpose flourSelf-raising flour = Flour with the appropriate amount of raising agent (Baking powder) added for your altitude plus salt. Often, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, plus 1 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.Cornflour = corn starch.Homemade chips = Home made French fries.Mince, as in minced chicken, turkey or beef = Ground chicken, turkey or beef.Veggie mince = TVP = textured vegetable protein = textured soy protein (TSP), soy or other meat substituteNot all the recipes call for measured ingredients. In those that do, the measurements are an issue as 300g of flour gives a different cup measurement to 300g wine or 300g meat so it is not easy to convert in your head. And since England still uses both metric and imperial measurements, it is a pity the book doesn't reflect that. Imperial measurements are easier to mentally convert to cup measurements. I have a weighing scales that does the trick but not everyone will.Likewise, the temperature conversions can be off putting if you have never done so before but they are not as tricky as the weight/volume measurements. The author has released a US suitable version of the print book but that version is not available on kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Halogen-Oven-Everyday-Cookbook/dp/1905862881/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1329793140&sr=8-3For me, the kindle edition was worth the money. If you can get over the temperature and measurement differences, I would recommend the book.

Love it!
So far we are loving this. I wasn't expecting the sheer size or weight - I didn't read the descriptions very clearly lol The "bowl" is this glass as is the cover. I was initially concerned because the glass cover cannot be "dis-attached" from the electric motor, was concerned about clean up. Very little gets on the glass cover, a simple wipe with a damp towel is all it takes to clean it up. The glass is surprisingly easy to clean as well - but it does have some weight to it so may not be a good choice for elderly cooks.

The Everyday Halogen Oven Cookbook
I was a little disappointed in this cookbook. I got a Halogen Oven as a gift & had no instructions. This left me at a loss as to how long to cook anything. This is the 2nd book I ordered ( I sent the 1st one back). My problems with this book is it uses ingrediants that most people don't have available in their cupboards or refers. Many odd recipes, for me at least, but the cooking times & temps will help me with using my machine. Have tried one of the meals & although the meal was very good the chicken was not done so had to cook just it longer. No problem but was disappointed the whole meal was not ready at the same time. This meal had potatoes, vegies & chicken. Will continue to use it as it's going to help me in getting used to the difference in cooking. The Everyday Halogen Oven Cookbook: Quick, Easy and Nutritious Recipes for All the Family

Should have looked inside this book
I am sure this is a great book if you live in the UK. However I, like another reviewer would have preferred an American author. There are some recipies that I have no clue what the basic dish is by the title. I have the ability to change metric into US measures but I would prefer the US verson. Just lazy I guess! I am sure Ms. Flower is an excellent cook. It's just an old America addage, "Keep it simple stupid". With this book I feel stupid..And as my title says, I should have looked inside before I ordered it.

Great Cookbook
For us, I wouldn't call it an everyday cookbook but did find a dozen or so recipes to try. So far, hubby has eaten and approved of a couple dessert recipes. Now, onto the more healthy recipes.I really like the fact that the ingredients are listed on the outer edge of the page making it easy to check whether one has all the ingredients. This is a great cookbook for learning how to use a halogen oven.

Very dull book.
Just a long list of individual recipes, with a few meal planner near the end of the book.No photographs of finished recipes.
