Awesome reel
I’m fishing 20 lb line on the 15 size reel with spectra backing and it’s awesome. 2-speed might be overkill for that line class, but for the price and quality... why not!?!? I also have 25, 30, and 40 size reels and they are all great! Killed a lot of yellowfin and bluefin tunas with these. All the engineering of the Penn Torque reels at half the price.

Solid; Perfect for NorCal Bottom fishing
1) This is my second FTH15LD2 purchase as I love them!2) It's solid and perfect for lingcod and rockfish.3) Drag is very smooth.4) 2-speed is convenient towards end of day to ease winding up.5) Lastly, it's a beauty ... a perfect match for Seeker Black Steel (or oldie American Series) rods!

I've bought several of these Fathoms. Only one had an issue but it still caught fish.
I've purchased several of these Fathoms to upgrade my tackle from older Penns and Newells. All have been great except one, a 15 which wasn't shifting consistently into low gear. Initially I thought this particular reel needed to be "broken-in". Thus I used this particular 15 on one trip with 25# mono topshot. Other than the shifting which sometimes needed coaxing into low range, the reel worked very well easily handling several yellowtail and larger grade 15# bonito. Of course one could argue the need for a two speed reel with 25# line because it is almost like cheating to winch in the fish when it's at 'color'. While I was quite pleased with this particular reel overall, however after the trip I considered having this reel sent in for warranty or having it replaced under warranty. I opted for the easier option to replace it. The replacement Fathom 15 shifts flawlessly like all the others I have. Now I've noticed the price has gone down considerably for the original version "15" so get one while you still can. I intend to fish my 15s with 20# and 25# due to their limited line capacity. I should mention I use a 25N with 30# mono.

Works as expected
From Alaska to Japan, I've used these reels trolling and vertical jigging. No mechanical issues. I probably don't know any better, but no complaints. Own 2.

Solid reel
I have many Penn reels and rods, like all others, this one is very solid and strong, I will use it for Sea bass and Black fish later this year.
