Very detailed photos give a great vision of the paintings, which was useful, having seen many on visits. Photographs I took were OK, but the book showed the paintings much better. Also the account of the artists life was really interesting and gave added details which I previously have not read about. A very good book.

I love this book! It has very good information about the life and painting techniques of Caravaggio. The photos are of wonderful quality. It has great information about the details and the historical reasons for the paintings. I am only an admirer of the artist, but I believe that this book could be a great tool for the students of visual arts.

It is a wonderful book with great reproductions and a list of all Caravaggio's works.

This is a review for non-art critics, for people like me who know very little about art but sometimes want to look back at the paintings they may have seen on their travels. I have to admit to being somewhat offended by the tone of some of the negative reviews about this tome which seem to suggest that most people who liked the book had never actually purchased or even read a book before! Well I liked it. Yes it is huge, but so what? When I look through it I am reminded of trips to Rome, Sundays spent at the National Gallery and it makes me happy. We can't all be experts or claim to know whether reproductions of paintings are too dark,too light or not the best quality. It is perfectly fine to enjoy something like this just because it brings back great memories and helps me explore a subject in which I am interested. A great purchase which I will keep and revisit for many years to come.

Bought this book after watching the new Black and White film The Talented Mr Ripley and was interested in reading more about Caravaggio. BUT remember this book is NOT the Bigger version in film

I think this book is special. This is a book that is a comprehensive book about Maestro Carravaggio’s career and works. I am blessed that it is very thorough and it is not simply an exposé or museum placard on each work. It is an honor that Tashen has chosen this artist as a subject and given him such a specific and professional treatment. I cannot thank them enough! If they did one on maestro Donatello I wouldn’t know what to say. It would be a subject worthy of their publishing company. This series is superb and I commend the company for doing it! やはり本格的な画家の全集、って 最低でも、このぐらいの大きさになるんだと思います。 40×30（電話帳より二回りぐらい大きいかな？）ぐらいですが、 表紙のこの有名な絵だけでも、「買ってよかった」です。 絵を観るのにあんまりレクチャーとか要らないって思っているので、 洋書でOK、って感じでした。 安くなってるし、海外からの輸送での破損はなかったです。おすすめ。 （2020年1月 追記） 美術館のショップで、この書の「日本語バージョン」と思われるものがありました。 値段は2万弱、だったでしょうか。 こっちのほうがおすすめです。
