UGREEN Power Esata eSATAp to Sata Cable Dual Power USB 12V 5V Combo to 22 Pin (7Pin + 15Pin) for 2.5" 3.5" HDD

I wanted to upgrade my mom's laptop to a Samsung SSD, but the one I got was slightly smaller than her spinning disk hard drive. That's fine, as she had only used about 15% of the space on the old disk. However, the Samsung software which makes it easy to do this kind of transfer to a smaller disk didn't recognize the drive when it was installed in my existing USB3-to-SATA enclosure--it only wanted to run on Samsung drives, and in the enclosure it showed up as manufactured by the maker of the enclosure. This UGREEN cable did the trick. I felt kind of foolish buying it, because the USB+eSATA port on the laptop this plugs into isn't really used on new laptops anymore, so I was seriously going to use this a single time for a few minutes and then never again. But I couldn't get it to work without it. It's a very specialized piece of equipment, but if you need it, you need it, and it works perfectly for what it does.

I bought this a while ago, but finally had a chance to use it. I needed to back up one of my older computers that had USB 2 and eSATA, but not USB 3. What can I say - it worked flawlessly. Cloning 300 Gb to a backup drive over USB 2.0 took 6 hours. 6 HOURS! Same amount over this connection took 1 hour and 1 minute! And that's with older 1.5 gb/s eSATA, not even more recent 3 or 6 gb/s. If you're one of the people that still needs this type of connection, just get it - it works. Make sure you have powered eSATA connection though, like the USB/eSATA Combo port that laptops used to have.

This is a well built cable. But make sure your port has 12V power available or this will not work. I had tried it with my Akitio Thunderbolt hub which has eSata ports. But it did not get the needed power to drive my 2TB SSD. I had to buy a different cable which has a little dangling USB cable attached to give USB power to the SSD. But amazing customer service from these great people. They immediately jumped into action to remediate the situation. Rarely see that even from companies selling 1000 dollar items. Thanks.

Works great with the Dell E-series dock and Latitude E5400 laptop I connected it to. No drivers needed; it immediately showed up and worked great with full speeds. Since it's getting power over USB, it won't work with desktop drives. Also, make sure your eSATA port is a dual-mode port; you should be able to plug USB devices into it as well. If you have just an eSATA port this will not work since that does not provide any power. The disk also shows up as if it's connected internally, which makes things like drive firmware updates easier.

Never got it to work. Not sure if was the computer, me, or the cable. I would skip buying this and just buy a USB SATA cable.

The two which I bought do not work with any known good drives. They do not seem to power the drive up at all. I can plug the drive into other SATA connectors and they work fine. UPDATE: I'm going to change mine to 3-stars simple because I did some more research and Ugreen reached out to me to ask about this. Here are my notes which I sent them. Hopefully others can benefit from this. 1. I connected both to my iMac - or rather to my Thunderbolt hub (which has two eSATA connections). I only have USB and Thunderbolt connections on my iMac so I connected one of the Thunderbolt ports to an Akitio Thunder Dock (https://smile.amazon.com/Akitio-Thunder-Thunderbolt-Cable-Included/dp/B00INMUTUS/ref=sr_1_1). The dock itself is powered and but I’m betting, now that I read through this that the hub only just meets eSATA standards (which do not require power). 2. I tried both 2.5” and 3.5” drives and had the same issue. 3. I tried the Seagate ST4000DM000 and Seagate ST4000DM000. I thought these would pull power from eSATA but the more I think of it, since the basic eSATA standard does not require power on the line, this is what probably caused my issue (as my Thunderbolt hub - while powered - probably doesn't provide power down the eSATA connections). And since the connector doesn’t allow for an external power source, I cannot use them. This, of course, is unfortunate. Especially since I like the design - the cables are solid and sturdy and not flimsy at all. I just don't have a use for them since there's no way to add external power to a drive if an eSATA connection is not providing power.

I wanted to use this to expand my DVR capacity on my cable box, but they(Spectrum) have the port disabled. I use it on my laptop with a SS HD for external storage/backup and it is lightning fast!!! plugs and plays in windows 10 at least.

worked perfectly, just note that you need a ESata / usb combo port on your laptop for this cable to work. you can tell if you have one of those as ot will be marked esata with the symbol for usb right beside it. I used this cable to clone my hard drive onto a SSD drive for an upgrade.
