Puritan's Pride Calcium Citrate 200 Mg per Coated Caplet, White, 200 Count

Recommended by Nurse Practitioner for this dosage because you can only absorb so much calcium at one time. Smaller dosage, taken more frequently, is more effective, according to research. Easy on my stomach, no upset.

I fell down a rabbit hole. In looking up how much calcium would be advised for someone my age, I ran across a report from Harvard Medical about how the amount of calcium many Americans take in the form of supplements can lead to kidney stones and arterial calcification (hardening). Using their calculations and recommendations from the World Health Organization, it looks like I'm only about 200mg shy of the calcium I need on any given day.The problem now was finding a supplement (and of course, they recommended calcium citrate over the other kind) that wasn't quadruple the amount I need! I thought I was going to have to search the entire web or start cutting up calcium pills, but then I found this Puritan's Pride and a few others. Puritan's Pride was the one that offered the most value for the money, so I ordered it straight away.Now, I can't tell you that my bones feel stronger or my arteries don't feel harder or some miracle has happened. But I do know that based on the pile of medical studies I read, this 200mg caplet on top of the calcium I usually get from food each day is exactly what I need to hit a safe recommended amount. Exactly what I was looking for!

It's hard to find a calcium citrate product that is pretty much just calicum citrate and doesn't have any superfluous additives. There used to be quite a few options to choose from, but some brands discontinued their calcium citrate or change their formula. Luckily Puritans Pride is still doing it right. 200mg tablets make it each to space out the dosage and tailor the dosage relative to what I've eaten.It gets difficult getting enough calcium on a ketogenic diet if you're not eating cheese. Your options are "eat 1.5pounds of collard green every day" or supplement. I tried the collards route, got used to it, but needed a change for various reasons. Calcium citrate helps me do that.

Calcium citrate is easier to absorb, low dosage so you can add what you need AFTER the calcium you ingest in your diet so you don't over do it, smaller than most calcium caplets and easier to swallow, price point is pretty good but could be lower, well tolerated which isn't always the case for me.

I purchased this product in April and take 2 caplets a day, There are only 41 left; the bottle was short 66 caplets, that's 33%.

Hard to find a decent Calcium Citrate, which is the only kind my doctor told me to take. The capsules are not as large as many of the others although you do need to take 5 a day to get the full 1,000 mg dose. Brand has been around a long time, and product decently priced.
