Buckley fans will LOVE this
I got this book for my husband, a diehard Buckley fan, as a Christmas gift. I think the fact that he ignored the family and his own hygiene for 2 days while he devoured this book means he didn't mind it. Also now watching and making me watch people watching Buckley songs on YouTube ad nauseam pls help

Beautiful but heartbreaking
Jeff’s music has recently entered my life, somewhat accidentally. I caught a song of his playing (‘So Real’) and decided to research what I have come to understand is his sole album, ‘Grace’. After listening to the album daily for the past three or four weeks, I came across this biography written by Dave Lory and Jim Irvin. I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for producing such a beautiful but heartbreaking recollection of Jeff’s story as well as your own. I appreciate the nuances, the difficulties and shortcomings in Jeff’s personality that many biographies and documentaries seem to miss. You paint a raw, loving but critical picture of a complicated and exceptionally talented man. As someone struggling with the terminal illness of a loved one, Jeff’s music - with all of its brooding musings on existentialism - are somehow preparing me for the inevitable. Your book, your touching writing, is also a powerful statement on grief. I now realise that death is not something you simply ‘get over’, but rather something you learn to live with. I can sense the catharsis and urgency throughout the book, not just in Jeff’s life but in your own. I hope writing this has allowed you to close a very painful chapter in your life. The brief section towards the end where you discuss contacting a psychic touched me deeply, as it’s been something ticking in my mind in regards to my family member. Thank you for this. Thank you for being a guiding light in Jeff’s life, steering him towards greatness and one of the greatest works of music ever produced. There were moments where I had to put down this book to weep. Love radiates from your words. Thank you.

What a book!
Of all the docs I've watched, the interviews I've read... more than anything, this book you wrote really made me feel like I was there in those moments you described. This effect is rare. Your prose are real, sincere, incredibly informative and also very funny. I feel like I got a real sense of the regular guy that was Jeff, which was incredible. His insecurities, his issues, his loves and of course his genius. I got a great kick out of reading about how he could be such a dick at times too! And I also got something I didn't expect, which was just so damn compelling; a look into the music industry at that time - how tours came together, how PR strategies played out - so, so interesting and I don't think anyone else, but a close friend and working partner of an artist, could write such a thing. I'm recommending this to all my music friends.I work at a museum in the city and for the last three days I pissed off my boss by barely making eye contact with guests at the front desk as a result of being so invested in the story. I believe this is an important book for artists/creators to read; it's honest about the trials, tribulations and processes that occur around the act of making things. I think so many will relate to how Jeff often failed to meet the standards of his meticulous fantasies; being mentally prolific, but arduously productive. It's a sort of relief to hear that Jeff too struggled with similar creative issues. The creativity that is involved in building up a fan base and the energy that it takes to build up a song are both linked to this same sort of passion for the divine. I can say that word without cringing mainly because Jeff's music gave me permission to do so - I could only refer to his music as something that attempted to and often succeeded in bringing forth "the divine"; this transcendent something. Everyone involved in music - as long as they are being honest and real- are, I feel, kind of acting in service of that divinity. Thank you for bringing it forth, making me laugh, and making me pause. Great inspiration and an unparallelled portrait of Jeff. Reminds me to keep making things, no matter what. Reminds me that "It's about the music, stupid."
