CURT 11435 Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4-Inch Receiver, Compatible with Select Mazda MX-5 Miata, Black

I would consider myself a novice to car repair and modification, and was able to install this with good results on my 2017 RF GT -- it fits perfectly. I would recommend to read through the instructions twice before starting though, and make sure you have all the tools on hand. Exhaust hanger pliers were immensely helpful. For grinding the holes in the chassis I used a Dremel with aluminum oxide grinding stone and it took quite a bit of time, but it got the job done -- just be sure to wear eye protection, a respirator, and ear muffs. Take your time with fishing the bolts through the holes, and also be patient when placing the hitch for mounting. Some other reviews mentioned completely removing the exhaust for ease of placement, but I was unable to easily do that with the leverage I had under my car on jack stands, so just managed with it on. I would also recommend an extra set of hands to hold it in place until the nuts can be initially screwed on, or else you might accidentally bump the bolts back up into the frame like I did while trying to strategically place wood support blocks. A deep socket set might also be beneficial for some of the nuts when finishing up, depending on the wrench you have.

Easy to fit. The hardest part was enlarging the 2 rear holes. I used a hand file and it took about 20 minutes. Using the supplied fish wire made it easy to get the nuts and spacers into the chassis rail. Check out the Curt website for videos of how to do this. An extra pair of hands is useful for holding the towbar in place while you tighten the nuts. I'm very happy Amazon had this in stock in the UK. It would have been almost twice the price if I'd imported it from America.

This hitch rode the muffler of my Miata the whole time I had it.... So loud... Hated it so much I just stopped biking and took the hitch off.

I jacked the back of the car up and slipped my car ramps under the tires so I had plenty of room to work underneath the car. I disconnected and removed the muffler for easy access. I followed the installation process that was detailed in the Curt video. Start to finish, the whole process took 2 hours, but I did need help holding the receiver in place to get the nuts started.
