Perfect for keeping dogs corralled!
When we purchased our home we knew we would need a gate to keep our dogs (two <25 pounds and one >120 lbs) safely locked away while we were not home. We had a few requirements: 1) Had to be more than 24" tall so our jumper could not clear it easily 2) Had to be sturdy enough so that our large dog (Great dane/Am. Bulldog) could not easily plow through it 3) Had to be attractive as the gate would be separating the dining area from an addition (dog room) 4) Could not have large enough gaps between bars that our smaller dogs (Chihuahua mixes) could fit through 5) Must have a secure latch so dogs could not easily nose it open After looking at so many dog gates, I was really starting to get discouraged. I then did a more broad search and looked into baby gates... leading me to this fabulous gate! It satisfies all of our requirements with a couple modifications necessary for our situation. The install was not difficult and with the proper tools to anchor all four supports into the wall takes maybe 20 minutes. Installing it as directed, the gate does have some give and instability in the center. This made me nervous because I feared our 120 lb dog would jump against it and rip everything right out of the wall. We couldn't have that so my significant other anchored it into our tile at the two outer "edges" of the door way in the gate. This provided much needed stability at the base! I would recommend doing this particularly if you don't want your floor underneath getting scratched up as every time you open the door or touch the gate it will rub along your floor. If you don't have the tools, at the very least get some of those floor saving sticky strips that you can press on the underside of the gate. Things were going swimmingly and we adored the gate until one night when we got home and our large dog jumped against it just right (LITERALLY) causing the upper supports to swing out. This allowed the gate to be pushed further down by the dog, and with it being anchored into the tile, our tiles cracked from the force! I'm not sure what our dog did to get the anchors to swing out in such a way as we weren't able to reproduce it, however, our fix was to super glue the swivel supports so that cannot happen a second time. Had it not been anchored into the tile the whole gate would have slammed onto the floor, not exactly safe for dogs... or a baby as it's a substantial gate! All in all, I am absolutely pleased with this purchase! Yes, it took some additional modifications, but they were easy to do and are not necessarily needed for the average purchaser of this gate. The gate is a very nice, and functional piece in our home and we've had many people comment on it. The finish is a chocolate brown that is extremely easy to wipe clean and I have yet to find any scratch marks on it after months of use despite the abuse of our dogs. I highly recommend it as a barricade to keep dogs out of certain areas.

Very sturdy, tall and stylish! SAFETY FIRST!
I bought this gate for my daughter's new apartment. My granddaughter was 11 months old and crawling faster than I can trot behind her. I also knew she'd be walking within weeks. We had to get a gate to keep her away from the stairs. The apartment has a first floor front door and also garage entry, immediately climbing 17 steps to the apartment, which is then all on a second level. We had to find a gate that could ALWAYS be closed once they were in the apartment. We also hoped for a pretty contemporary color, which we found both in this gate. Her entry is 50" wide, so it had to be the expansion kind. I looked at ALL of them on Amazon, and this one had the best reviews, and I loved that it's taller than standard. My granddaughter is already tall for her age, and when she starts running, boy howdy, we BETTER be ready! This gate will last her until she is able to traverse the stairs by herself, negating the need for the gate. It also kept our boxer in when we visited. It's strong and goes together pretty easily. You do have to step across the bar under the gate opening, but then, you HAVE to have that bar on all gates to ensure stability across the width of the gate. We chose to install with screws. We found wood at the bottom and at the top of one side, but had to use the drywall screws at the top of the other. It didn't matter. It was STILL very sturdy. It does not wobble at all. Those few who said it did must not have done it correctly. You can also open and close with one hand, which is great if you're carrying a toddler or a sack of groceries. Great gate. Great peace of mind. We are very happy.

Great Gate - Extra Wide Expansion Capabilities
We searched high and low to find baby gates that would fit our 6 and 5 foot openings w/out bowing or otherwise having a strange configuration. These gates are PERFECT!! I love that they are really nice looking (added bonus) - not cheap or an eye sore. My husband and oldest son (14) were able to put them together and install 2 of them in approximately 1 hour. This included cutting our baseboards so they could be installed along the floor. Note: If you have baseboards and you don't want to cut them, it is possible to install the gate above the baseboard. We did this at first and the gate was plenty sturdy enough. But after a few weeks, we decided we would like the look a little better if it was installed properly on the floor (plus, when open, it's easier for baby to get over if there's not a 6 inch clearance.) LOVE that the gate can be opened with one hand, another bonus when you're trying to get through with baby in the other. Also LOVE that even though the gate is mounted to the wall, it has a "quick release" feature that allows you to take the gate down w/out having to take the mountings off. All and all - very happy with the product and would highly recommend!! My only word of caution is with this seller. We purchased 2 gates - and they were delivered in 2 days (yay!! Didn't even pay for expedited shipping so I was super happy with the shipping.) However, BOTH gates were broken upon arrival. I was disappointed, but the company offered free return shipping and even allowed for an option that UPS would come pick it up from my house, so again, very satisified. I was hoping to simply exchange the product (again, it was hard to find a 6-foot gate to begin with!) but when I tried, I was told they were out of stock. Disappointed and unable to find them in-stock elsewhere, I kept checking back at Amazon. And lo-and-behold, several days after I returned my broken gates, it showed that the seller had 2 "new in box" gates available. I'm 100% positive these are the same two gates that I returned and marked as broken. So, we decided to order from a local baby store in the area.

A sturdy gate with a perplexing design flaw
I purchased this gate for my Old English Sheepdog, to span a wide opening (56") between my kitchen and dining room. It's a good gate and I would buy it again, but as other reviewers have mentioned this gate doesn't always play nice with baseboards because the bottom mounting brackets are flat and the screw position isn't optimized for installation in baseboard. In my opinion, this is a rather large design flaw because this gate is intended for wide openings in homes, and most wide openings that I've seen in homes have baseboards on both sides! It's possible to mount the gate entirely above the baseboard, but this configuration raises the lower bar inches above the floor, which is unattractive and is also a tripping hazard. Another option is to "mechanically alter" the baseboard (i.e., cut out whatever part of the baseboard gets in the way mounting the bracket) but I didn't want to do that because I'm renting my home. A simple workaround to mount this gate flush with the floor if you have baseboards is to use small blocks of hardwood as shims between the baseboard and lower mounting brackets. I used 1/2" thick oak from a big box lumber store, which I purchased in the form of a 1/2" x 3" x 2 ' board and which I then cut into two pieces to fit the lower brackets. I used one 2.5" long wood screw to mount the oak block to the baseboard and wall stud, and another 2.5" screw to mount the bracket to the oak block, baseboard, and wall stud (using the lower hole). The included screws aren't nearly long enough (they're just barely 1.25"). By using the longer screws, I ensured that the brackets are anchored into the wall studs (each lower bracket is 1/4" thick, the oak block is 1/2" thick, the baseboard is 1/2" thick, and the drywall is 1/2" or 5/8" thick, so it's at least 1.75" until the screws hit the studs...). For the top screw hole, I used 3/4" wood screws, so that the bracket is only screwed into the oak block. I posted some pictures to show how I mounted the lower brackets. The gate is hardware-mount only (no pressure fit option) and includes 4 extension pieces. The wide range of size adjustment is achieved by using 1, 2, 3, or all 4 of these extensions. If only 1 or 3 extensions are used, the door is not centered because of the unequal number of extensions on either side of the door (1 or 2 extensions on one side, 0 or 1 on the other side). An off-center door may or may not be desirable, depending on the other doors, furniture, etc., around your particular opening. In my opening, I used 3 extensions and the off-center door works well. The extensions do allow for a large range of size adjustment to fit various openings, but they introduce some wobbly-ness to the gate. This is typical in all baby gates I've ever used, but I keep hoping that a smart company will eventually fix this problem with a better design. One very nice feature of this gate is the 4 plastic "hole covers" that cover up the holes between the extension pieces (2 go on top of the gate, and 2 go on the bottom). While these covers are included for aesthetic purposes, they are also great for protecting hardwood floors from being scratched by the bottom of the gate when my dog presses against it. My other baby gate scratched my floor until I figured out that I could prevent it by attaching little plastic nubs to the bottom bar of the gate. Regarding the baseboard-mounting design flaw, part of the problem is that the two holes for screws are displaced mostly in the vertical direction rather than the horizontal direction. A simple design improvement would be to make the lower brackets a bit wider and include a third screw hole displaced horizontally. By making this change and including a few different thicknesses of plastic shim blocks, say 1/4", 1/2", and 1" thick, with the same 3-hole configuration, it would be easier to mount this gate on various baseboards without spending an hour driving to the hardware store to pick up a block of wood. Overall, this is a very functional gate, and I think it's sturdy enough for my large dog. Even though the mounting brackets aren't designed for baseboards, they are made of strong plastic and seem very secure. Other features that I like are the door-opening mechanism, which is very easy to operate one-handed, and the ability of the door to open in both directions, which makes it easy to let my dog out and back in again without having to do the awkward walk-around that's required when the gate only opens in one direction.

Very sturdy and well made
This is the second time I purchased this gate. The first was about 5 years ago and I installed it to keep my two Labrador Retrievers out of the living room. It is well made but over time with two large dogs jumping up on it and hitting it whenever they would go in and out took it's toll. I did not hesitate to buy the same one again. It is super easy to set up and adjust it to whatever size your doorway opening is. It comes with extra gate segments if you need to accommodate a wide opening. The latch is easy to use and doesn't require any effort and locks securely. There are plastic protectors that slide over the top and bottom rails to cover the screws and gives it a finished look. The gate opens like a door and can be opened toward you or away from you which is a nice feature. I also like that this is made of metal and has a more elegant look to it than a plastic gate.

Best gates I've had.
We've raised two kids, and now have two large dogs that we've gated to various areas of the house. We got two of these to gate off the entryway and a sitting room so they don't rush visitors. They are absolutely perfect. They are well-designed to cover the various width openings described, and are sturdy even across the 72" entryway. If you've dealt with other gates note that these don't friction-fit - you MUST screw them into the wall. They come with screws and plastic anchors - everything you need is in the box except for a drill to drill pilot holes and a philips head screwdriver. Installation was easy - maybe 30 minutes total per gate? The mounting installation is exceptionally well-engineered to make it easy for one person to get the gate set up. The wall anchors are also designed well so that you can take the gate down quickly leaving the wall mounts in place unobtrusively. The gate latch is a little clicky at first, but it's settled in fine and nobody in the family has a problem with it except the dogs, which was of course the intent. They look *very* nice and have met with the approval of the Mrs. CAUTION: It's the nature of gates like this that there's a bar across the bottom of the gate opening. If you have dark floors, the dark metal bar is a serious trip hazard. This is not the fault of the manufacturer - just a reality of the way these gates work. I bought fluorescent tape and wrapped several strips across the bottom bar, which pretty much solves the problem. I recommend Polyken 510-Neon Premium Fluorescent Gaffers Tape: 2 in. x 75 ft. (Fluorescent Orange) - it's easy to work with, bright, and sticks very well.

Cheap parts and no support
I bought this gate less than a year ago. The gate itself is a little wobbly when installed across a wide doorway, but held and worked fine. The problem is that the brackets that attach this metal gate are plastic. If you look at the photo for the upper latch this is the piece that failed. The entire gate slides into the small circle area on the latch while the rest is screwed to the wall. The only thing holding the gate in place is a thin plastic circle. My 48lb dog put his paws on the top of the gate, like how they jump up to see over something. It was not like he was using the gate as a balance beam. , The inner circle that holds the gate to the wall stretched or wore just enough to where the gate tension bar now pops out and the gate won't hold in place. I contacted their customer service to see if I could purchase replacement parts, just those plastic brackets, and they replied that they do not sell any replacement parts. I've attached their response and a screen shot from their manual for part reference. Buyer beware, this is an expensive metal gate held to the wall by plastic, and they do not support their product. So now after less than a year of use, I've got a useless gate that I'll have to rig somehow. Even without the dog pushing on the gate, the normal flexing and use of the gate was already causing plastic wear. It seems like the manufacturer would foresee this, but instead I guess they prefer we buy an entire new gate. It is certainly not unreasonable to expect a nearly $200 gate to at least last a year.

Very happy with this gate
Overall, I am very happy with this gate so far. We got a new puppy recently and needed a gate to close off an area for her. I looked around a lot in stores and online. Ended up trying out this gate. We choose it for the taller height and the wideness. We needed it for a 5' opening. After 2 weeks of use, I'm very happy with it. I installed this on a 5' opening. I used one of the extra panels on the left side and just used the single panel on the right. The gate itself was easy to screw together and prep for install. It was very easy to install with the mounting brackets. Just 2 screws for each bracket. I just eye balled the bottom brackets to center it on the frame of the opening and let it sit on the carpet for the height. Once the bottom brackets are in you just put the top brackets on the gate and see where they end up touching your sides. Put one screw in each bracket, remove the gate and add a second screw. Very easy install. I really like the mounting brackets and how easy it is to take out the gate. This gate doesn't mount with pressure, but I wouldn't expect that with a 5' opening. The door opens and closes very smoothly. It's pretty easy to open and close once you get used to it. It doesn't auto close, but I think the closure latch is more secure this way. My dog has already pushed up against it and it didn't budge at all. Very solid. Overall... Pros: -great height, taller than most gates -easy setup and install, good instructions -very sturdy build -solid once installed, should hold up to a lot of weight against it. Cons: none so far If any issues come up I'll update my review. I would say buy this gate with confidence.
