Perfect for working moms!
I have young kids and work long hours, however I have been able to make a bunch of home-made meals for the last two weeks, since I bought this book. I have already made at least 6 of the dishes in this book. The recipes are not complicated; every recipe has a picture so it really gives you an idea how the dishes will pan out. Most of the recipes contain ingredients that you have around most of the time (or you can easily replace), although you may need to update your spices (I did not have star anise at hand for the Asian chicken). The prep is quick, the instructions straight forward, and the dishes, oh so flavorful! One day, I left the "Poached Chicken with Asian Flavors" cooking in the crockpot. I texted my husband telling him that dinner was in the crockpot so he could go ahead and serve to the kids because I was going to be late. He texted back "I hope you didn't want any, it's all gone'. I thought he was joking but when I came back home he and my two kids ate the whole chicken! They even chew on the bones because the flavor of the broth had gotten into them and it was so good. Next day everybody took the broth for lunch. This book is worth every penny I paid for it.

Martha dishes up comfort one pot at a time
I have to admit that I am surprised that I enjoy Martha Stewart's cooking. Her PBS series on cooking classes was a nice refresher on some basic techniques. So I was reasonable enthused about getting this book. It does not disappoint! It contains a variety of recipes for a variety of pots (pressure cooker, slow cooker, dutch oven, skillet, roasting pan). The majority of foods are classic comfort foods, so don't expect a lot of exotic flavors here. But that's fine, because what's presented is presented nicely. The recipes are simple (as one would expect with one pot) and tasty. The majority of the recipes use common ingredients found in most pantries. A full picture illustration goes with most recipes making it easy to see what the final product will be like. Each cooking technique gets a page or two describing how to best take advantage of that method, and each technique also gets a recipe that can be easily altered/expanded into 4 recipes.Overall, this is a simple but strong cookbook that should appeal to most home cooks. I'd rate it as pretty intermediate leaning towards basic. Top chefs won't come away with a lot that's new from this book, but for home cooks who are looking to cook a great meal while cutting down on pots and pans will probably get a lot of use out of this book. I expect to, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars. My only complaint is the lack of nutritional information per recipe, but that's not a big enough flaw to knock off a star.
