Is the software mac compatible? will it work with os yosemite?

The software is a well-known third-party application called Audacity. It's freely available from many web sites. In this package it comes supplied on a mini-CD, which may or may not be readable by your optical drive.

Does this device serve as a normal cassette player? (Can it playback a tape?)

It *IS* a normal casssette player, and nothing more. It uses third-party software that you must run on your computer to do the digitizing. It has a headphone jack and a USB mini-B output jack, and uses two AA batteries. AC adapter is NOT included.

why does the tape drag?

Because they are old tapes, stand unit upright instead of down, watch it the whole time in use so if something happens you can stop it.

Will this work with Windows 10?

I'm not 100% sure if this works with Windows 10 but as long as you can download and install the "audacity.com" software from cnet.com, it should work. You can even try downloading it before you purchase this item just to make sure you CAN install and use this software. If it works, you should be able to use this device. Hope this info helps.
