Good exercises to remain up mental math skills. I bought the grade 2, 3 and 4 ones and I found that the grade 2 is the best. Great method to teach mental math and some very useful strategies, whichnwill never be outdated.

My nephew was behind in math when he came to stay with us, but quickly became very interested in doing math in his head, like my son & I do. My son does these workbooks as part of his homeschool, so I got them for my nephew, as well. I just have to make sure he practices the skill they are trying to teach him, instead of trying to answer the problems his own way (he is easily distracted). WARNING: My son learns a new math skill, and immediately starts trying to do the problems in his head; and I'm, like, uh, dude... Got to learn the skill on paper first... Or at least work it out on paper after you think you've got the answer in your head... Otherwise, he just makes silly mistakes... But all-in-all, these are great books. I recommend them highly. NOTE: I recently got a book called Arithmetricks that might have these beat; but they are not workbooks.

my 8yrs old was intimidated when we got this - BUT the instructions are simple and clear to understand. He is working thru the but in stages and it has helped a lot when discovering the mental math method - HIGHLY RECOMMEND
