This book changed my life. While I had grown up with the belief that you can burn what you eat with exercise, the book clearly brings out the difference between food intake and exercise, and the hormonal processes involved when eat. The basics are simple - we are eating far more and far more frequently than what the human body is designed for. Hunger is just a signal to the brain, and does not mean we are starving. Proteins, Fats and Fibre are essential to give a sense of fullness, which a carb-only diet does not give. We have enough reserves in the body to last for a long time. It explains some very practical methods to introduce fasting into our daily life. Based on the book, I adopted a number of lifestyle changes. I stopped snacking, and learned to live with hunger much longer, made changes to my food composition, skipping lunch - all without any impact to my daily productivity at work. As a benefit, I am 6 kg lighter, and my latest medical reports indicated better cholesterol levels. The format is also innovative - with each chapter having 3 distinct sections - each with a different author bringing a unique perspective - a doctor, a researcher and a patient. Overall, the book brings clarity in a confusing space.

This book is very informative and explains Intermittent Fasting very well. As with other books by Dr. Fung, it very clearly explains the material so that the reader does not need to have a science background to understand the concepts. I have been practicing the 8 - 16 schedule of Intermittent Fasting for quite a while and feel that this schedule, along with good choices as to what I eat, has helped me maintain good blood sugar and insulin levels while never experiencing extreme hunger and while maintaining good energy levels. The concept works for me.
