Can this towel holder be flipped over and hung with the opening on the right? I want to have a matching pair.

The “ring” component that holds towel is fixed permanently to the “anchoring” component that attaches to wall. To reverse one so two can match (face each other) would require one upside down.

Has anyone tried using this as a toilet paper holder? And if so, does it work well? The essentials cube standard toilet paper holder is very small

This has not been tested for that. The overall size is larger than the toilet paper holder. It may be harder to slide the roll over the edge of the holder.
