Sirens and the Dungeons Are Calling

A VERY IMPORTANT ALBUM IN EARLY METAL
Ok. I don't write too many reviews but this has to get out. In high school from 1980 to 1984 and metal became so important to me. UFO, Black Sabbath, Van Halen and then NWOBHM!!!! Judas Priest, Sampson, Tank, Jaguar, Venom, Iron Maiden, Raven, Saxon etc.. And then Metallica, Exodus, Armored Saint, Accept, Merciful Fate and every other band that meant so much to me (too many to list). Then one day in 1985 a buddy loaned me Sirens by an unknown to me band called Savatage. Don't remember how many times I listened to this before returning it and buying a copy of me own (later stolen or lost). Anyway if you listened to metal in the early 1980's you will get and understand this album. Fast tight guitar work by Chris Oliva and shrieking vocals by brother Jon. Can't leave out Steve and Keith. Every song on this album grabs me hard and believe it or not 35 years later I still sing and love every song on Sirens. These guys had more talent than they probably realized at the time and keep this in mind. Short of funds they had just 24 hours to record Sirens and the Dungeons are Calling. A miracle. This was suppose to be one single album and it turned into an album and later a LP (Dungeons). To me this is a very important recording in the early days of metal. Yes Metallica and other American bands had a much different sound than Savatage but that is what makes this album so kick ass and why I was attracted to the sound. I was lucky enough to buy the original 45 vinyl when they were Avatar (very rare). Anyway if you like early metal give Sirens a listen and go back to the awesome 1980's of metal and listen to it over and over. Maybe it will grab hold of you, maybe not...I absolutely love this recording. Raw and full of a youthful metal band starting out from Tarpon Springs, Florida. R.I.P. Chris. Your amazing talent is missed

The Original Lineup Will Always Be King
I found this by accident and was excited about it. I am so old, I have both of these on vinyl. I thought it would be awesome to have it on digital all in one place. I love the original lineup and the raw edgy material before the big label days and all of the lineup changes. Jon Oliva is the only singer for this band. This album is the epitome of the original band. How did so many talentless bands make it so big in the 80's and Savatage is still obscure to most? This is definitely worth the price of admission. If you've never heard of Savatage and are a fan of heavy, melodic, progressive metal, you'll love this "record" . Think if Dream Theater and Iron Maiden had a baby!!! But the songs aren't 10 minutes long!!!

SAVATAGEEE
Amazing Album. Savatage always has great and catchy riffs. Track #5 On the Run is very underrated, i hear and see nothing about it on Youtube or anything but its one of my favorites, very catchy and I can't stop humming it. One thing that irritates me in this remastered edition is that they added siren sounds in the middle of the song Holocaust, Track 2 and it really brings the song down. I also feel the volume on that track is a little lower. Would love if the guitar riffs for Holocaust was at higher, would be more amazing to jam to.

Classic speed metal
Here are the first two Savatage albums on one disc, "Sirens" and "Dungeons Are Calling". Savatage's music is difficult to pin-point, as each album had subtle changes, but here the band played a pretty straight forward & aggressive speed metal sound, which is far heavier than the band's later albums. Of these two albums, "Dungeons Are Calling" is my favorite as the songs are longer & heavier (imagine Mercyful Fate without the thematic approach), and it overall feels a lot more mature & focused, whereas "Sirens" mixes it up a bit with some lighter moments. I liked every track on both album, though I do think that the closer of "Sirens", a rather out-of-place acoustic ballad named "Out On the Streets", was pretty cheesy and unnecessary. To me, it sounds like something Skid Row would have written years later (never a good thing, if you ask me). Overall, this is essential for any Savatage fan!

First Savatage Album "SIRENS" plus
I got turned on to Savatage through a guitarist friend of mine, quite along time ago. I've never heard anything on Sirens that I wouldn't classify as a hit, on the plus songs, I believe that one of the songs "the Dungeons are Calling" I wasn't exactly impressed with. This is the quintessential Savatage cd to get songs 1-9 are from the released "SIRENS" album, the rest are from the bands original album, but cut at the pressing time. Do yourself a favor and buy this cd if you love crunching guitar riffs, and gut-busting vocals, piercing your ear drums until they bleed with joy.

Buy or die
This thing is seriously too good to be true. I'm a big fan of Savatage and saw them live once - they waved at us as they were driving away! - and this two-album remaster is so good that if you are a metalhead, you deserve to be smacked for not buying it.
