relaxing and soothing
I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter to help her fall asleep. She was becoming harder and harder to put to bed, and I think it's because we used to play white noise in her room all night, and the past couple months we hadn't been using anything. So she had a hard time settling down in a completely quiet room. This was the second CD we used for her. The first one was a CD with a women telling bedtime stories. Once she got tired of that, I think this CD was a great transition. The music is interesting to listen to, but soothing and slow enough that it really helps her relax and drift off to sleep. Since using this CD we've never had a problem putting her to bed (in combination with other bedtime rituals like restricting a pacifier to just her crib, reading stories, having books and tissues and favorite blankets in her crib). It's something I would like to listen to if I had problems sleeping. I would recommend this product!

DREAMY. Not just gorgeous--ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.
i just have to second what many have said here already: This is an absolutely beautiful album. There is not one "skip through" track on the entire CD. Each one warrants finding more music from the same artist. In fact, that is why i am on amazon today--to find each artist's full album that appears on this compilation. I have had this DREAMLAND CD for a year now--it is the ONLY lullaby CD that gets played every night and it still hasnt gotten old (all of those hip "rock-a-bye baby" lullaby renditions of popular music that i bought in my early postpartum days are collecting dust--it just IS NOT good music. period.) This CD is definitely for parents that have an aversion to hearing baa baa black sheep or rock-a-bye baby over and over on the xylophone/bells. Even if i cant sing the words on some of the songs because they are in different languages, i now have a whole new repertoire of songs to hum to my baby with or without the CD. This is a must have.

Beautiful Rhythmic Songs
My son is 9 years old and has ADHD. I was looking for a CD that would soothe him before bed at night and distract him from any bad thoughts that seem to cause his nightmares. The first time we played the CD, he said, "Mom, can you turn off that music? It's kinda freakin me out." So, I turned it off and he listened to the radio that night..... The next night, I turned it on again and I noticed he was singing along with the music. The CD played in its entirety that night as he fell asleep listening to it..... The third night, as he was singing along, he said, "I kinda like this song." And we talked about the instruments that, at the same time, made the song interesting and relaxing. Now, we listen to it every single night and we love it! I purchased this CD based on the great reviews and I'm very glad I did. We love this CD.

Amazing and beautiful
My wife loves this (I love it almost as much). We listened to it almost nightly for final 2 months of pregnancy and listened to it while she was at the hospital...and after our daughter was born...and still pop in on once or twice a week. The only issue i have is the 10th song. It's a Japanese song and is nice, but doesn't belong on a lullaby CD. It's far to clangy...and our daughter would get shaken up out of her sleep by it. I had to burn it to IPOD without that song to play it. If not for that song, it would be the best lullaby CD we owe. Even with that song, it's my wife's favorite.

A terrific collection
I am normally not a big fan of Putamayo collections, but this one is excellent in my opinion. Every song is soothing & melodic without being weird or cloying. Although devised to help children fall asleep, I am an adult and I purchased it for myself for those nights I have difficulty turning off the noise in my mind and falling asleep. I would not restrict this to bedtime however. It is enjoyable enough to listen to anytime one needs to de-stress. I feel my money was well-spent on this and I would not hesitate to purchase this as a new-baby-gift or for any child's birthday. I don't like all lullaby-type albums, but this one is a winner. Another excellent one is a collection by Windham Hill called " On a Starry Night ". I have played both of these to rock babies to sleep and also just to have lovely, soothing music to relax with. I highly recommend this c d.

Soothing for little souls - and big ones too!
A friend of ours sent us this when our son was in the hospital, at 5 weeks old, for open heart surgery. It was a stressful, sad (yet victorious too as it saved his life) time and this cd was a true gift of comfort. We had our laptop and played this cd by our son's crib all night long and often during the day. We slept in the room with him and it nurtured us as well. He is 3 1/2 months old now and we still listen to it most every night. If he's fussing, he stops instantly when I turn the cd on. Song #1 is our favorite. I love to hold him in my arms and dance around the bedroom listening to it, every night before I put him to bed. Each song is very different and it's great exposure to other cultures. Yes, buy this cd!
