Yes - it is very sturdy, with the lid sitting pretty secure on the box. So, yep, you can sit on it.

Not on top I don't think but it does hold a lot.

The box isn't separate, it's an all in one box with wheels and collapsing handle (like a suitcase). So useful and very robust, I've bashed it about a lot moving house etc as well as normal daily use! Hope this helps
