Easy to Use, Fast Results, and Peace of Mind
The Safe Home DIY Bacteria in Water Test Kit is an excellent option for anyone wanting a quick and reliable way to check their water for coliform bacteria. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the kit felt well-made and professional. I appreciated that it provides results in as little as 24 hours, which is perfect when you need answers quickly. The fact that it’s EPA lab-certified and made in the USA gave me extra confidence in the accuracy. I used it to test both tap and filtered water, and everything came back clear—which gave me real peace of mind. The 2-pack is a nice bonus if you want to re-test or use on another source like well water. Highly recommend if you're looking for a straightforward, at-home water test that doesn’t require shipping samples out or waiting days for results.

Works great
I knew I had coliform in my well, so tested it knowing it was in there, and then after I treated it. It worked exactly as advertised. It was super simple, and easy to tell if the water was still contaminated. When I first tested it knowing there was bacteria, it took a bit longer than it said to change because I didn't keep it at the preferred temperature, but the second time I did, and I worked quickly. I'm going to keep a few of these on hand to test to make sure the coliform doesn't come back.

Seems to work
October 22, 2025 Update I had a professional who works with the county health department come out and gather a water sample. He called today to confirm that we did indeed have bacteria in our water, so the test from Safe Home for bacteria did work. The test from Safe Home told us we had bacteria in the water, and the county health department took it one step farther and identified the specific type of bacteria, which was total coliform. Original Review: The test confirmed the presence of bacteria in our well water. I will check it against a professionally completed one by our county next month because of the positive result of bacteria in our water. It is easy to use, but it's important to follow directions to get it right. They tell you not to overfill the bottle with your water sample. My recommendation is to use a very slow flow of water from the faucet and keep checking the water level. If it seems to still be yellow after 24-48 hours, shake it to be sure it's still yellow. At first showed a yellow color that seemed to mean it lacked bacteria, but after 2 days I shook it and it turned green. They do suggest shaking it. The test can be completed quickly. I made sure I cleaned the faucet carefully with Chlorox, ran the water for the recommended amount of time, and had clean hands to be sure I didn't add any bacteria to the test. The test is fairly inexpensive and seems to be a good value for the money. I'm sure the professional test will cost me more, but it will be interesting to see how this test compares with the professional test. The main difference I can think of with regard to this test and the professional test I will get is that this test doesn't break down what bacteria is actually in the water. I just shows a blue or green color that suggests there is the presence of bacteria.

Hopefully accurate results
Used it to test water from main kitchen faucet. Really know way to check the accuracy or validity with just one kit so I can only trust that it is accurate. My test resulted in no bacteria.

Affordable, Easy to Use Test Kit
This test kit performed beautifully! I rent my home, so I didn't want to spend alot of money to test through a lab...$60! The kit is very easy to use and the directions covered everything. Since my house is cooler the the 70 degree minimum temperature for testing, I figured my results might take more than 24 hours. Soon after the 24 hours, the water began to turn a bluish-green color. The color continued to deepen until there was no question. My water is contaminated by coliform bacteria. I took the sample container and the box to my landlord as proof, and it is now in his hands. $15 well spent!

Might not Detect all Noted Bacteria
Our well water had an unpleasant odor. We used one of these kits and nothing was detected. We then took water samples to a testing facility and they determined we were high in non-fecal, non-ecoli coliform. The odor was apparently from sulfur that often accompanies it. I'm sure the kit detects abnormalities so, I'm putting this out there as an fyi.
