Even in the Odds: A Study of Odd Meters and Rhythms for the Drummer
GREAT BOOKall "caps" deservedThis book was written by Ralph Humphrey.Ralph Humphrey (and Joe Porcaro) used to run the PIT department of Musicians Institute in Hollywood Ca... (they both taught there and ran / headed PIT)Now Ralph Humphrey teaches and heads the drum department at Los Angeles Music Academy.I own this book and have worked out of it, and I have learned ALOT from it.This book will explain odd meters to you, easy to understand. Assuming you know how to read music (rhythm) FIRST.It makes sense in all its explanations. It will at the very least (assuming youd never PRACTICE or TRY OUT these ideas / theories / concepts) educate you to a very "advanced" level of understanding the THEORY of odd meters.GREAT BOOKWhat it explains by subdividing a measure of 4/4 time in itself is priceless.Sweet book. I own it and have learned ALOT from it. Ive never heard of or came across a BETTER book on odd meters.my copy was autographed to me by Ralph Humphrey - not for sale has my name on it lolhope this review helps, it is a great book, the best out on odd metersyoutube/watch?v=Wv52iglNZwo

The Ultimate Book for Odd Time Studies
Ralph Humphrey has done a brilliant job on this book, the best Odd Time resource I've found out there.I only received it yesterday & started working on it for 30 minutes & I could see how it's going to help me better understand Odd Times & Meters, which is something I struggle with. I think anyone who gets through this book will be able to play in Odd Times as well as they play in 4/4.However you shouldn't pay any more than $20.00 for it, just do a google search as I did & you will find for $19.95USD. Whoever put the price of this book at $160.00 is living in make beleive land.
