Only you can save the lost city of Atlantis, one of the greatest civilizations man has ever known. You command the three defense posts that guard the skies. As the dreaded Gorgon Fleet descends on Atlantis, you must destroy them, or perish! One or two players can help defend the submerged city of Atlantis. The longer you last, the faster they come. Some enemy ships fly slowly but steadily over Atlantis. Others streak across the sky. Knock out a Bandit Bomber and annihilate its entire Gorgon squad! Blitz them!

Defend Atlantis to the bitter end.
Atlantis puts you in control of three cannons, defending the city of Atlantis.Use the joystick to select which cannon to fire. While the central cannon is the easiest to hit enemies with, the outer cannons are still useful for crossfire and award more points for hitting targets with them. Note that you do not "aim" the cannons, only control when they fire.The invading fleet makes multiple passes before they can attack the city. This gives you a couple tries to hit them without penalty. Once they reach the bottom row, they use a laser beam to destroy one part of the city, including the central cannon. Loss of this cannon makes the game significantly harder.Sound effects are important to hear the approach of faster enemies. With good timing, you can line up a shot to take these out as soon as they appear.True to the spirit of Atlantis, play continues until the city is completely destroyed.Atlantis has multiple difficulty modes, and a two-player mode where each player controls a different cannon.

Meh.
To quote DJ OHM-DOG: "It's futuristic. You have three cannons/lasers. On the right, middle, and left. Space ships fly over head while shooting down. You my friend, must toggle which laser you want to use, by holding down the direction of the cannon/laser. So you have something you want to shoot on the upper right hand corner of the screen...so while holding left on your controller you shoot from your left cannon/"LASER."" I cannot disagree with his description and I cannot even disagree with his feelings towards the game. I do understand where he is coming from, however I must say that I enjoy this game more than missile command, however, I own 55 atari games and both Atlantis and Missile command I would put in the bottom ten as far as fun and enjoyment is concerned. I should note that I don't keep or play games that suck, so the fact that I have this game and play it, although not very often, says something. DJ OHM-DOG may not be one of the biggest fans of this game, and who can blame him, and even though I am not as well, I at least am indifferent towards the game. It's not bad enough to get rid of, but not good enough to play regularly. Enough said.I wanted to leave the review "meh" as in complete indifference, but I had time to kill so I wrote more, lol

Atlantis- Atari 2600
Atlantis, one of the greatest atari 2600 games. A very simple premise, protect your city. But highly fun and re playable.
