A little tip goes a long way
I normally do not write reviews but I am on this one because I am aware of all the negative reviews and do not want the product to be discontinued.I have been using this product for about 2 years, every month to a month and a half between my salon gray covering. I am Asian with very dark hair, and even with "dark brown" the result has been somewhat mediocre. The last couple of times I noticed that it hardly covered anything. Then I found out that this product can be used on the wet hair by reading the Q&A, and also read on the internet that the tip for the home hair coloring is the heat. So, I suspected that the reason it didn’t work very well is due to this extreme cold weather, and tried following:- Got in the shower and shampooed the hair to wash out all the hair product- Towel-dried the hair and applied the product on damp hair- Briefly blasted the applied area with hot air with a hair dryer (not completely dry, just to apply a little bit of heat)- Put the shower cap on to retain the warmth and left it for about an hour (probably too long but I wanted to make sure)- Rinse with cold-to-lukewarm water, apply conditioner, and repeat the rinseAnd Voila! It worked, covering the gray probably the best ever in my previous touch-ups. This time, all the gray was colored, enough to blend in with the rest just right. No more eye-sore white sticking out! I feel that the key is the heat so I will play around with other parameters little more (no pre-shampoo, shorter leaving time, etc) next time.

Disappointing results, showering makes color wash out every 3rd day.
I bought the Clairol Root Touch-Up Semi-Permanent Hair Color Blending Gel, 5 Medium Brown, because I have grey wisps of grey around my face , although the rest of my hair remains a medium/dark brown. I even put this on the Amazon Subscribe & Save list. To it's credit, the applicator works extremely well, better than any other root touch-up I have ever tried. The disappointment is the semi-permanent dye. I expected the result would last at least 2-3 weeks, maybe up to 4 weeks. I discovered the color washes out after 3-4 shampoos. This translates to LESS than ONE WEEK, that's works out to be about 10 applications each month, making this Clairol product a massive waste of time. Last time I equate Clairol with quality. The last temporary root coverage, lasted for 3 weeks at a time.Despite the super-easy & neat application method, skip this product to find a better product.

Damage-free, portable touch-ups!
Are you a perfectionist who goes to the salon or colors their own hair regularly and hates to see a hint of gray at the part line and/or temples? If you also don't want to damage your hair with ammonia or peroxide, but you want something more than a temporary spray, this is probably what you've been looking for in a root touch-up. You don't have to mix anything; just squeeze the color onto the brush. It's something you could take with you if you're on a road trip and not worry about making a big mess in someone's house or a hotel room (not sure about TSA's rules for this product-- you'd have to check with them, but if you're driving, it packs easily). The auburn shade blends perfectly, doesn't stink, and is easy to use. I put it on while I'm having my morning coffee. By the time I've checked messages or taken a peek at social media, I'm ready to shower and rinse it out. The box says 10-20 minutes. I try to wait the full 20 to make sure roots are thoroughly covered, then use a mild, color-safe shampoo and color-safe conditioner. This product is affordable and can definitely help you extend time between hair appointments. If you have color fading on your ends, you might want to use a color gloss or color-enhancing conditioner in addition to using this product (not on the same day).

Works as it should
Bought for the wife, no complaints so I’m sure it worked as advertised

Weak sauce
The instructions recommend applying to wet hair, did not work. Reapplied and still did not cover the grey. Their other touch-up works so well. I was excited about the mess-free application and since I use the brand regularly, I had higher expectations. I'll try again on dry hair but for now, disappointed in the (lack of) results.

A perfect match to the same Clairol color -- in the ideal spray formula
I am 95% gray by the age of 52 so NOT dyeing is NOT an option! But to have a great spray-on root cover-up designed to 100% match whatever Clairol brand I buy is new and FANTASTIC![Also, in case you haven't done the research, Clairol hands-down has the longest gray-covering color on the market, so if you are dyeing to cover gray hair, don't both buying any other product.]Knowing that, you can wait for sales; watch for them at your local pharmacy, everywhere! When I find a Clairol color on a great sale -- I pretty much clear out the ENTIRE SHELF OF THEM! I regularly can find the color for 50% off, or at least often enough to use up my LAST stash of huge purchasing! (Also, if you find them on the clearance rack because they are CLOSE to expiring, just like so many food products, the colors last much longer than the official "expiration date" does.)I haven't seen the spray on sale (except by being a CVS loyalty member and getting a $10/coupon for free each month + a host of other random coupons CVS texts me, which I can "send" to my loyalty card on my phone and then use at the checkout counter if I need root cover-up spray -- or simply to stock up on more.)But this exact match to Clairol's specific colors is new -- at least as far as I've seen in late summer 2023. I save it and use it only for times I'm officiating a wedding or otherwise need to look 100% polished and professional.Lastly, I've tried all the various root cover up applicator styles -- the powers, pens, lipstick-like applications, and different types of sprays. This is definitely the best I've tried so far. A spray, it doesn't leave my hair sticky and frozen (almost like hair spray) and it even lasts for several washes -- which I've NEVER seen in root coverups before!YaYa Clairol, especially for women who got the bad-luck-plucked-my-first-gray-hair-in-college women!
