If you thought the TV version was good...
WOW. These 30 minutes extra make such a difference. Not only does it make full sence the first time through, but you actually pick up on the actor's slower pace and have time to absorb it all. Its even MORE emotional in such high quality. The commentary from Rob Tapert, Lucy Lawless, and Renee O'Connor is awesome, I feel like I should just add to the conversation. This is a must have for any of the Hardcore Nut Balls out there! Gabrielle's (O'Connor)'mud fight' with Mourymoto (SP) is expanded and it helps to capture the essence of the fight. A great set of scenes showing how the characters go to Mt. Fuji is intresting, as their spirit forms take possession of birds. The ending sequence is great, most intresting are the protective dragon tatoo on Gabrielle's role in keeping her safe from Yodoshi and the way that Xena's(Lawless) ghost transforms from what I think of as a beaten, shattered, slave to Yodoshi to the powerful, Xena: Warrior Princess via the Fountain of Strength's water. Very good for anoyone who saw the last episode and is over the mourning as well as anyone who enjoys Japanese movies or just Xena, Greece, Japan, or action in general.

A finale that stands on its own
"Friend in Need" is by far one of the best episodes of the series. As a matter of fact, it's more than an episode, it's a lot like a movie. "Xena: Warrior Princess" ended with the "bang" that it was supposed to.Sure, Xena's death is a bit violent but the character itself was violent. "Friend in Need" is full of symbolic elements and in two episodes manages to portray the entire show and remind the viewer what the series was all about: redemption, friendship and the greater good. This episode was artistically beautiful and will make any fan cry. For me, the ending was perfect and very appropriate. Of course it's really sad to see Xena go and Gabrielle left all alone, but this really represents what fans feel like seeing the series come to an end. Although Xena has left us, she will always be a part of us and, like Gabrielle, we have learned a lot from her and can keep her legacy alive.

An excellent finale for an excellente series!
I have been a fan of XWP for years, and I almost died of anxiety waiting for the series finale. Even though I already knew the controversy around the resolution of Xena's character, I kept an open mind about it. Since I knew that Robert Tapert himself would direct the episode, there was a very good chance of the show closing with "the dignity of a warrior". So, all I have to say is... EXCELLENT! The episode is so good I can't believe is not a movie! The acting is superb, the level of the special effects is huge, and all the elements that made Xena one of the best action series of all time are there. I know some people may not agree with me, but I assure you that this finale makes justice to the character, to the show, and to us. Believe me, because I am a BIG FAN. Anyway, I absolutely recommend this DVD...

I thought the series finale was a fitting end to the series
I'm looking forward to seeing the directors cut since I did enjoy the series finale.I wish they had wrote season four and five with that intensity as they did for "When Fates Collide and Friend In Need I/II".I might have continued to watch the series but towards the middle of season four it seemed the writers had ran out of ideas and it seemed that every other episode the characters were breaking into song and dance or storylines made you scream at the television.....where's the plot? This DVD Lucy,ROC and Tabert do a commentary during the showing of the finale, explaining what went where, why they did this instead of that.If you ever watched Mystery Theater it plays out the same way.You also have your other option of just watching without commentary.A few additional scenes that are added explain a little bit more. The behind the scenes is awesome and ROC actually climbed down that cliff to get to the urn!Xena went out the same way she started on Hercules,as a Warrior!!!

Sad to see her go, but well worth the buy
I have been a fan of Xena: Warrior Princess since the very beginning. Being in Australia, where Xena isn't that popular, I've had to go elsewhere to buy the series. Series six hasn't even finished screening here, but once I saw this DVD, I couldn't resist it. And I'm glad I didn't.Although dark and somewhat different to what I expected, I was impressed with this DVD. I'm quite unhappy (as I'm sure are many other Xena fans) that Xena had to die that way ... if at all. I heard myself yelling at Gabby to just throw those ashes in and ignore Xena's words. I will never understand why Rob Tapert chose to kill Xena off. I felt it didn't fit in with the message the show had been trying to get across for six seasons. They spoke about soulmates, about destiny and Xena and Gabrielle being together forever, which I found myself believing in. And then they went and took Gabby's soulmate away from her. I hope a movie is made to bring Xena back to life! But then again, I'm just wishing. Renee O'connor in my opinion is a magnificent actor, and I feel she stole the show. This DVD was a long, sad roller coaster ride of emotions, and I recommend it to anyone ... even if you are not a fan of the television series. The commentary is fantastic. Lucy and Renee are both incredible women, and I will miss them for a long time.LONG LIVE XENA, EVEN IN THE UNDERWORLD. Rob ... how about that movie?

The video was awesome. I nevr got to see the season finale
The video was awesome. I nevr got to see the season finale. I was such a huge fan of the show. What a beautiful relationship. Xena had always known that she was not going to live long. I think she was ready to move on with her life with Gabby but her acts of the past caught up with her. However, because Gabby made her such a good person she had to die to save the souls. Love it!!!

awsome
I Thought it was a good way to end the series. If you seen the entire series I felt that they made this into a fast past epside. Gaberilla in the last 2 season really becomes a warrior, but in this epsiode its like from the very start xenia knows she is going to die and tries to teach gaberila everything that should have been done thur out the entire series. otherwise it was a good episode.

Last 2 episodes of season 6 w/bonus features
This was actually the last two episodes of season over again but with bonus features. It did have a commentary with the director, Lucy and Renee which, to my surprise, I actually listened to and enjoyed. There was also an interesting behind the scenes video of over 20 minutes showing how they did some of the scenes, the discomforts, redundancies and even dangers of being an actor etc. which was quite informative and interesting. If this doesn't interest you then just stick with the season 6 set. To me personally, it was worth it.
