DD Whoopie Slings

These are far better quality than the more expensive whoopie slings on Amazon, they have a bead to stop you from collapsing the loop and a thick tail to stop you from pulling the loop completely through. I bought a set for a friend getting into hammocking and now want to replace my more expensive slings with these to benefit from the loop not being able to close. If you don't know what these are: Whoopie Slings can be attached to your tree straps to give some extra length and also to allow for easy adjustment. I have one on each strap but don't always use them or maybe just at one end as suits the location. They allow me to use trees that are much further apart than I could with simple straps.

Whoopie slings are a great addition to any hammock suspension system. They are very light and easy to adjust. If you are buying these then I assume you have already used them before and are either replacements or spares. If you are new to whoopies then you will also need tree huggers (thick straps to protect the tree surface) and a pair of climbing grade karabiners. If you search Amazon and DD you can buy all you need in a complete kit. DD make great gear, which is affordable and good quality.

Working great with my Amazonias Traveler Camp hammock and tree huggers

I saw these things in a you tube video about hammock set ups and watched a DD video on them as well. It's a simple and effective concept that helps make setting up and adjusting a hammock much easier. The trouble was there were no instructions and the videos I saw all overlooked something that I found critical and which almost certainly mean I've slightly damaged my whoopies. In the videos making adjustments looks effortless but that's not my experience. I found is that they are difficult to adjust (tighten or slacken) while they are under any kind of load. In practice that just means you need to hold the weight of the hammock while making adjustments. That sounds simple but if you've tensioned the lines to hang the hammock and have sat or laid in it then it's not always easy to release the tension enough to make adjustments. I'm getting better at this but I've found that the critical thing is that the large looped end of the cord really needs to be able to move smoothly through a carabiner, or similar, so that adjustments can travel down the line. Failing to realise that in my first attempts meant that I've slightly stretched and distorted some of the cord. It probably won't matter but it was frustrating so I hope you benefit from my experience. Overall its a very good useful product but some instructions would have helped...

Excellent lightweight solution to hammock adjustment

These are great, They last a long time even with heavy use. After a short learning curve they are easy to use and versatile, I Personally use mine with home made tree straps and a marlin spike hitch. DD's tree straps are a little flimsy for me and can't be used with knots, only wrapped around so the straps are doubled. That's why I choose to make my own tree straps from polyester webbing.
