Great book! But...
I've used this book for many years. Mine was falling apart so I bought a second copy. Someone has written on some of the pages! Fortunately, it's in pencil and I'm putting my tests in digital format anyway but I thought it was weird for it to have pages that had writing on them.

Great Series!
I am really enjoying this series. I am a private tutor, and once I've worked students through the program I use to teach reading and spelling, I wanted something to follow up with while we continue to build reading comprehension fluency, and writing skills. The kids are enjoying learning big words and understanding their meanings by knowing the roots. It helps with spelling, too! Who knew indictment had the root "dict" meaning, "speak"?! well, not me, until we started using these books. I appreciate the built in review lessons, too. I've made cards to play matching and Go Fish games, and Bingo cards to provide extra practice. I give prizes if students discover more words with the same roots we have learned. Thank you, Trisha, for giving us a framework to follow!

Delivers on its promise to help with vocabulary building
Pretty much what I was expecting. Gives a latin or greek root then my child can learn the definitiions of various words that use it and self-test her knowledge with multiple choice questions. Very hands off on my part except for assigning the time to work on it and checking that it's done. We use it to afterschool in conjunction with the public school, so this book is NOT just for homeschoolers. Probably should have started it earlier than 6th grade -- my girl is finding it pretty easy.We have also used the Royal Fireworks Press books for vocabulary and are up to Ceasar's Vocabulary I. These are great but require much hands on facilitation by me to quiz my child on what's been learned and to have her actively read and discuss the accompanying texts. BTW we did do a home enrichment unit on ancient Rome per Susan Wise Bauer's suggestion in The Well Trained Mind book and having this history background is useful for the Royal Fireworks Press materials. The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home (Fourth Edition)Though RFP does have ancient Roman stuff in it, I find their approach a bit too dry and does not have enough depth. Caesar's English I, Classical Education: Implementation Manual: CEE Parts 1&2 (2012) I would recommend going out of amazon to the Royal Fireworks Press and perusing their site to get a better understanding of what they can offer. You might find plenty of other materials to add to your curriculum.

Great for the classroom
Comes nicely formatted for each week and I like the review activities and games for review. I haven't implemented it yet, but will for the second semester. I did ask a student whose teacher used it last year if she found it helpful and she said it was the most helpful thing in the class for vocabulary. Since she was an English Learner, I'll definitely try it in my class. The only suggestion for use is to copy the pages into smaller sizes so you can fit four copies on a page and cut the sections. This way, students can staple them into their notebooks and it saves paper and space.

Homeschooled student improved reading comprehension after using this workbook.
I bought this for my homeschooled 8th grader last year. When I asked her about it, she said this workbook was helping her understand other words in her reading. She was genuinely happy to be learning from this workbook and seeing results in comprehension. I would recommend this for children who like structured learning, but most of the lessons are short enough to just use as a warm-up for reading if you have more exciting lesson plans. I will be purchasing this workbook again for my 7th grader this year.

Poor quality for over $20!
The seller should be ashamed for selling an old, ripped book with a horribly wrinkled cover for over $20! Shouldn’t have charged over $5. The description said it might have some damage, but I had to tape the front cover just to put it on my shelf. Lesson learned.

Another great resource for middle school teachers
Another great resource for middle school teachers! I use this for vocabulary work in the classroom for centers, for homework, and for their weekly vocabulary quiz. You can watch as students learn and figure out how these roots work and they love it! Great activities that are engaging and the words are vocabulary they will definitely need for their future!
