Good value and easy to use.
I bought this as I suspected a patch of dampness in the front porch and was attracted by its combination of use on softwood, hardwood, plasterboard and masonry. Once I installed the two included AAA batteries, removed the adhesive screen protector and switched on I found ease of use straightforward. It can be used in both a Scanning mode, whereby the rear of the meter is placed flat on a surface, or in Prod mode with the two metal probes exposed by flipping over a cover on the top and piercing the material you wish to measure. Bear in mind that the probes have to be pushed into the material so they will leave a couple of pinprick holes.Accuracy in Prod mode is plus or minus 2% while in Scanning mode (which measures to a depth of 20mm) is plus or minus 4%. An audible alarm sounds when Scanning reads >17% moisture in wood and 70% in masonry; and Prod reads >17%.I particularly like the Hold function, a button on the front which when pressed locks the reading for viewing and proved helpful when using in an enclosed space.A light, solid meter made in China that comes with a carry case that attaches to a waist belt. It’s backlit display is easy to read. Several YouTube videos of its use are available and it seems to feature in several Top 5 or Top 10 moisture meters. For the price I’ve found it to be good value.

this is a good piece of kit to have around as you need ...
Bought this meter to ensure the moisture content of logs I am burning on my multi stove is not to high. Burning logs with a high moisture content can lead to a tarred up chimney and the danger of a chimney fire. Product arrived well packaged and contained the meter, a battery, spare probes (2), a carry case and instructions. Popped the battery into the back of the meter, removed the protective cap from the head of the meter and was met by two VERY sharp and pointy probes. Do not let your kids play with this meter!!. The meter is simplicity in itself. Get your log (or piece of wood) and press the two probes into chosen item. A large LCD screen gives an immediate reading of the moisture content. You can hold this reading on screen should you desire. The meter range is from 5% to 40%. I think, if you have a wood burner, this is a good piece of kit to have around as you need to burn logs with a moisture content of around 20% (or lower) Worth the money

Use for to make comparative measurements
I bought this to check on damp levels in our caravan. It is easy to use, especially in the non-destructive mode without the pins making holes, but is not as accurate as those used for professional caravan servicing - but it is a tiny fraction of the cost and doesn;t need calibrating every day. Respose is very quickand the comparitive results are in line with the professional survey a couple of weeks earlier. Also used on some wood - just for fun and with the prods in use on timber it does look to be quite accurate. The pins are VERY sharp and the little plastic tip covers are easy to lose, but with a tilting cover, they're not completely necessary. For the price, it is a reasonable product

Excellent
I tested this gadget out on various pieces of wood I have set aside in the garage, for later use in the wood burner and appears to work well. The Kiln dried logs I have bought show as accurate 20% moisture content, comparing to other logs I have accumulated which are recently cut having higher moisture content as expected. This will enable me to sort those logs, knowing which is suitable to use now or save for further drying out or seasoning.Gadget is nice and compact too. Very pleased.

Good for logs
I’m no expert on damp meters but this does what I wanted it to - tells me percentage dampness of logs for my log burner - simple and effective. Really easy to use and comes in a nice case. Am pleased with it.

It measures damp.
Not had the item long enough to be able to give a proper response to how good or bad it may be but I can say it does give a reading (2 percent) on a bit of ultra dry wood that has been hanging around my garage for a couple of years, I may start charging it rent, and it gave a very much higher reading on one of my deck planks that has been down for over two years and is constantly damp due to rain, will this rain never stop ✋ So I would have to say that based on just those two measurements that it works. For my purposes, wood burner logs moisture level, I’m sure it would be adequate and it’s fast so when the delivery man drops my next bulk builders bags of oak I’ll be able to check that the logs are 20% or less as stated by the seller. Bet they love these meters 😂

A robust value for money product that is easy to use.
Purchased to measure moisture content of logs for a wood burning stove.Easy to use.Insert the provided 9v battery into the unit, switch it on, remove the protective cover from the head of the unit to reveal the stainless steel prongs, (which you get a spare pair of) ‘lightly’ press the prongs into the wood, or whatever surface you wish to check the moisture content of, the units display panel immediately gives a percentage reading. That simple! The unit seems to be well made and relatively robust. It comes with its own zip up bag.Personally I think it’s worth the money.
