Cool and Quiet, with low wattage and high efficiency - 2020 Update
UPDATE 2020: Well, the process finally gave out, which I believe it was due to my ventilation neglect. Over the passed 7 years, this setup evolved from a 12 drive system to a 48 drive system, upgraded Acreca RAID, upgrade dual 24 bay Norco 4U Server case, but still it has worked amazing well. Same Supermicro X9SCM motherboard, added 10GBit network card, 24 WD 4TB drives in RAID 6.As this setup worked so well for the past 7 years, intend to replace the process and motherboard with same exact components, if I can find them at a reasonable price.Extremely low powered processor. I installed this in a media server I built where I had 12 SATA drives (5400RPM) and Acreca ARC-1231ML RAID adapter and this this barely made a sound. Things were cool and quiet plus at idle, 35 watts total. That's pretty amazing. In addition, when fully utilized the entire unit using this processor did not reach beyond 75 watts.

Not a bad little CPU
Very efficient; low TDP means less heat, and less heat means less noise.Good for a desktop machine. Great for a low-power server, too; this i3 supports ECC RAM, which means you can plug it in to a socket-1155 server motherboard, without spending several times more on a Xeon E3.The only feature that I wish this CPU had, and the reason I like instead of love it: this CPU does not have 'aesni' (AES Native Instructions) support. When I'm pushing files over SCP or SFTP to a Linux server with this CPU on my LAN, I actually hit 100% CPU before I max out my network capacity.

Great for HTPC, basic workstation, or a simple 24/7 server
This i3 has worked great on a mini-ITX 24/7 workstation/server I have running at home. With the stock heatsink, it will just barely fit inside my Habey EMC 600BL case. The build:Habey EMC 600BL CaseIntel i3-2120T4GB OCZ Gold DDR3 RAMCrucial M4 128 GB SSDIntel BOXDH61DLB3 Mini ITX MotherboardTotal power draw of the system is about 25 watts idle at around 35 degrees C, and about 45-50 watts under load (around 45-50 degrees C), measured with a Kill-A-Watt.The processor is well powerful enough to handle just about any productivity software, such as the Office suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. I haven't tried any video editing on it nor Lightroom. In terms of gaming, I am actually able to play Starcraft 2 with the integrated graphics, although at low settings. The system has been very stable, and runs for months at a time without any crashes or need to restart.I highly recommend this CPU if you're looking for a fair amount of performance with minimal power draw.

Four Stars
Integrated graphics allow me to play starcraft II on minimum specs.

Good CPU for CarPC
This CPU is destined for my latest CarPC build. After a few days of testing on the bench, it runs cool and quiet with the OEM heatsink/fan. With the 2 physical (4 logical) cores, it runs all of my CarPC applications (music, navigation, voice recognition, phone integration, pandora, sensors, ...) at well under 10% CPU load under Windows 7.

Zippy Low-power CPU for Entertainment PC
I purchased the Intel Core I3-2120T, 2X 2.60GHZ, CPU to use in a small PC that I could connect to my TV. I purchased a Jetway Mini-Top Barebones PC, Model# JBC700C9JG-H61-BW, Part# HBJC700C9JG-H61-BW, direct from Jetway as no one I could find sells this model. I will say it's an awesome little PC with MCE IR, a slim optical drive bay, an nVidia GT520M GPU with 1GB dedicated VRAM, an Intel chipset where you add a 2nd GEN Core i CPU (Sandy Bridge), support for 8GB RAM, an eSATA/eSATAp port and USB3as the more unusual features compared to other small PCs especially for the price. The only downside I see is the lack of USB ports. 2 USB2 on the back unless you count the USB in the eSATA port and 2 USB3 in the front. I added the USB2 hub below to add more USB ports and mounted it to the side of the PC with Scotch Reclosable Fasteners, see below. I'll let you look up more about this PC as it has nothing more to do with this review.MiniPC: [...]USB2 HUB: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KUQ8FG/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i02Mountinghttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00347A8GM/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QCXXZ0/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00The PC with this CPU is very responsive and I never hear the fan in the PC. Great CPU for this purpose. I will try playing games and update the review related to CPU performance when I am able.

Intel cpu is my favorite choice.
Straight out of the box this cpu is more than enough for my home tv pc build. The stock 2.6 GHz can handle anything, in the way of streaming, that I can throw at it. I love the Intel cpus, they are fast and dependable. I would recommend this cpu to anyone interested in building a good general purpose computer. If you are looking for gaming power go for the i7 series of the Intel cpu.

Great for home server
I purchased this to put in my new whs 2011 system along with a cooler master hyper 212 plus and it runs cool and quiet. It's able to handle my storage and media streaming tasks just fine. I would go for the 65w tdp chips if you plan on doing a lot of transcoding. I was just trying to use as little power as possible since it is on almost 24/7.
