Coding great, line follow doesn't work
My son is 5yrs, and we got this for him at Christmas. We love setting up challenges and using the cards to map out the route before typing in the instructions & running them. It's really easy, and my son understood it straight away. Also there are some fun silly, things, like getting Botley to make ghost noises, or act like a frog! The only downside is it won't follow a (thick black) line (on plain white paper). We have done everything as per instructions. It recognises the line, but then just sits there. Even with that, it'd still recommend as a good value programmable robot.

Our kids love it
This is a great 'learning' robot and our kids love it. Very sturdy and able to take a good knock, it keeps them interested when learning to program the toy. The robot however does not have a 'free control' setting which lets you play with it like a remote control car... in stead it has to follow pre-programmed route which the child needs to input via the remote control. This is no problem in itself as it develops the childs thinking skills as to where and how the robot needs to be programmed to go a particular route, but a free driving setting would have been a bonus so they could just whizz it about on the floor trying to avoid obstacles without having to program it beforehand.

Great little bot
This little bot is very fun to use. It's super cute so both children love it. It was bought for a nearly 5 year old and she's not quite got the hang of it but is enjoying pressing buttons under adult supervision. I can't leave her with it as she wants to roll it across the floor, and while I think it's quite robust, it's also quite expensive so I do worry that she'll break it. My son who is 7 can use it fantastically - reading the booklet for the pre-programmed settings. He's loved making it roll into a room or out from the table and do the spooky ghost program, driving it around the kitchen with the siren, and hey have both loved the disco dancing. From an educational perspective it's really great, us parents are software engineers so have been talking to them about building on code and testing, and how the code might look once they add to it. All in all, a really great toy.

Faulty item
Robot doesn’t work, will only move in a circle. Bought from Amazon Warehouse as like new and it was clearly returned as it was defective Sadly I can’t return as it was a birthday gift which wasn’t tried until after the return date… total waste of money

Great fun! coding for kids done properly!
Yes he's nearly £60 which seems a little expensive but this is a well polished bit of kit! I was quite excited about this coding robot when I was asked to review it and then my heart sank when I couldn't get the controller to talk to the robot, it turns out that I had put some not so zippy batteries in the controller and after that was remedied we have been having great fun with him since. You use the controller to input commands which are then sent to Botley by hitting the blue button. Once he receives the string of code he executes it. You can set loops of code and use his object detection to avoid objects as well as input "Easter eggs" of code to get him to act like a police car or a dinosaur (as in video) Our little boy is 3 years old so we haven't been doing anything too taxing yet, but I am really looking forward to having a good play with some mazes when he gets a little older and starts to understand more about stings of commands. Botley is really well made and looks like a solid toy which will take a beating well and survive... a polished bit of kit in my opinion, and I am happy to recommend even with the £60 price tag!

Mr Robot
Arrived fast. Cute little thing, expensive though! However this lil RC codeing robot is great, and very useful for my 5yo and 11yo. Even fun for me! I would recommend to make sure you have switched on the on/off switch on controller AND robot when try to use, as husband thought the controller was broken as wouldnt work, until i pointed out that theres a on/off switch 🤣🤣 and hes more techy than me 🤣🤣 Not only does he do codeing that you create, there is also little tricks he does... like swimming as a shark, being a train, police car etc... just follow the codes in the booklet. When its dark, he turns little lights on, Via a sensor on top of him. Hes very well made. Moves a little slow but i guess its meant to. Kids are very happy. I would recommend
