Apple ME177LL/A Time Capsule 2TB (Renewed), White

I’m very happy to have purchased this item. I didn’t know what I was going to do when my other time machine when down. It didn’t look brand new, but it wasn’t in bad condition either. Setting it up was very easy and didn’t take much time at all. I’m excited because my back ups are happening again and everything is back up and running!

Don't take me wrong. I love Apple & trust their products. I have been using my original Time Capsule, which I bought many years ago for my old MacBook air and which still works great. But I needed another Time Capsule for my new MacBook Air. So, I bought this one in Jan. 2025. The orange lamp started blinking while making laud noise in 3 months, in March. It continued on and off for a few weeks. Then, it started having steady green lamp again. But in May, it started doing the same thing again, non-stop. After that, I never seen the green lamp came back on. I gave up on it & bought a new, different brand, which is working great. The description says “acceptable’. Hmmm… to me, it was not.

The best solution to have your Mac backed up. Easy to setup, easy to use. Wi-fi router is also great, you can set up 2 wi-fi spots - 2,4 and 5GHz. Router settings are not rich, but enough to use in simple applications.

The Time Capsule works fine when it is finally set up with your computer and router. Not being a computer whiz I found it a lot harder to set up than the Apple claim "just click and go".

Time Capsule arrived ahead of schedule. Outside carton had rain damage from having been left out in the rain by delivery service, but Apple's skin tight sealed inner packaging and excellent padding made it clear that the item suffered no damage. I bought it to replace an old Airport Extreme whose cooling fan had gradually slowed and hen stopped completely, and i needed the extra data storage space which the Time Capsule feature offers. It was recommended by our local independent Apple products expert. He said the factory refurbished items were just as good as the brand new ones, and the price was right. I easily switched out the cables from the old Airport Extreme to the New Time Capsule but was not able to figure out how to program the software to get it functioning. I called our local Apple guy back and he came over and got everything working fine. It required some tricking of the default functions of the installation software. He said that the instructions packaged with the product had never worked correctly in his experience, but he has found a way to trick the system into letting him hook it up in spite of the attempts by the software to prevent it. Despite having to pay him twice, first to diagnose the problem, and second, to install the solution, the new Time Capsule is now working great and our slow and spotty DSL line is finally working reasonably well. Furthermore, it is great to have our iMac desktop backing up my previously full iPad and iPod Touch through the iCloud and then to have the new Time Capsule in turn back up all three devices. Peace of mind!

I bought this as a replacement for the second one of these we've used over the years, so I'm familiar with the equipment. But when it started fuzzing out and failing to keep a connection, I'd replaced the modem and tested the line every time, it was time to replace the router. This seemed to work fine. BUT now that we've had it just 7 months, it can't keep a connection more than 48 hours. This is not the performance of an Apple refurbished Time Capsule. So, this is either never refurbished, just tested as "good enough" and sold to me, or refurbished poorly and resold to me. VERY UNHAPPY wasting my time and money.

A great router however the storage part will take some technical skills and understanding to be able to use it. Not a novice item.

I'm amazed at the performance of this wife router. I have it setup in a pretty central location and it performs better or equal to AC3200 routers and has the Time Capsule to boot! I like some of the features that some of the more advanced routes have these days, but the simplicity and quick setup of this unit was impressive. I no longer have dead spots in the house(2 level 3500 sq/ft) and have at least 2 bars when I am next door at my neighbors. My neighbor told me the other day that she finds her phone connected to my router quite often when she is at her house. That mean's her phone is seeing a stronger signal from my router than the one she has in the basement.

A pesar de ser una unidad reparada, quizás usada, estaba en buen estado. Por lo que por ese lado nada tengo de qué quejarme. Creo que la descripción hecha fue justa e hizo justicia al verdadero estado del producto. Ahora, en lo que respecta al producto, desde hace mucho tiempo que había venido considerando adquirir uno, pero su precio de venta era exorbitante. Demasiado caro, la verdad una unidad externa era mucho más barato, y quizás hasta práctico. Pero, al tener dos Macs, el compartir el disco se volvió algo problemático. Decidí aprovechar el bajo precio que se pedía por esta unidad, y desde entonces feliz. Curiosamente, pese a que Apple descontinuó estos productos desde hace tiempo, parece que son muy apreciados y no precisamente por su capacidad para actuar como router sino por el soporte que brinda a Time Machine.
