CEH Certified Ethical Hacker All-in-One Exam Guide

A GREAT CEH STUDY GUIDE
If you've read all the other computer books and have decided it's time to go for the Certified Ethical Hacker's exam, this book is a great choice. It's only 373 pages, which, after the behemoths you read for the CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security + exam's probably sounds like a vacation. However, don't be fooled by the packaging. This short book may have fewer pages, but the meat is definitely there. There are eleven chapters containing every thing you should know to get you through the CEH exam.As to prerequisites and preparation for the CEH exam, in the author's own words, "Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) didn't gain the reputation and value is has by being easy to attain." By implication, this means that you should definitely know the OSI model backwards and forwards. SMTP, Telnet, UDP, TCP, they're all there, and if you can't get around the OSI model without checking the manual at every turn, maybe CEH isn't for you. The author warns that you must know networking, and security through and through. Expect those nasty performance questions on the CEH exam.Having said all that, however, it certainly doesn't mean that this book can't be read and understood by the casual tinkerer, or just for the fun of it. There's plenty of information to be cleaned from these pages, even for those of us who are just interested in the information for the fun of it. I read the book and felt very comfortable with the presentation and the information. One thing I especially liked was the author's chapter reviews. They're the best end-of-chapter reviews I've read anywhere. I may not be able to do a professional pen test, yet, but I certainly learned a lot from reading CEH.Matt Walker has an easy writing style that covers the facts without causing the reader to bang his or her head on the wall to understand them. But will you pass the exam after reading CEH? That's the big question. I'd say definitely not if this is your only source. I always hedge my bets just to be on the safe side, and read other authors on the same subject matter. But everybody's different. If you have a good IT background, know all the prerequisite material: computers, networking, security, did all the exercises, and whizzed through the practice tests with no problem, you're probably on target for a new career. For me, CEH by Matt Walker was a pleasure to read and I give it five stars for content and presentation.

Didn't quite meet expectations...
Coming from a very strong linux background I was expecting a lot from this book. I think if I was a Windows-centric IT person this book would be very useful. Not that I didn't get a lot from it, but I was looking for specific ways to construct and deploy payloads. This book is chalk full of resources and examples which are invaluable to anyone who wants to start breaking into IT Security. Overall, the book is well written and not ridden with typos and grammatical mistakes. It's a good book to have on your (virtual) bookshelf.

This book got me my CEH.
I had initially started reading through the EC Council books (v7). Those texts was poorly written, wordy, unsummarized, and outright boring. I considered giving up; it didn't seem worth the effort of reading through the books. Instead, I decided to try out this book instead upon recommendations from my instructor and fellow students. It saved me. I passed the CEH on the first attempt. The material in the book does not cover all that can be on the CEH exam. Some EC Council specific things (Insider Associate vs Insider Affiliate, specific category names of Trojans), and such are covered in the EC Council books but not in this book. However, this book covers enough to pass the exam without the time wasted on useless crap that will only be seen on the exam rather than in practice. The practice questions are fantastic; the cd in the back of the book contains access to 200 or so questions between the two tests. Very useful. If you know this book in and out and can answer all the practice questions without issue, the cert is within your reach.

Simply the best book to get if you want to pass your CEH
I don't usually give anything 5 - stars but this is certainly a winner. I read two other books for getting ready for the CEH test. Out of the 3 books this one was easily the best. The information is up to date still and it gives you the information in a clear, easy and fun way. The example stories in the book are easy to visualize and the way the author explains the hacks, applications, etc are easy to explain to someone with no prior knowledge on the subject. The book even contains a CD in the back that gives a couple of practice exams which is VERY close to the questions on the actual exam. I actually read this book twice and I aced by CEH test the first time around. If you are looking for a book to help you pass the CEH then you will definitely want to get this. It will not only help you to pass the exam but help you to become a proficient ethical hacker and well on your way to be a pen tester.

I passed CEH with this book
This book was very helpful. When I took the test, I had 7 years of IT experience, a degree in Information Security, good self-study habits (I was home schooled through HS and obtained my degree via self-study while working full-time), and a few smaller certifications like Network+ and Security+.If you know nothing about networking and are trying to take the test with just this book, I would not recommend it. If you have some networking background, this book might be just what you need. It was really fun to read and covered most of the stuff needed. For optimal study, I would recommend combining this book with the official study material (I did not use that, but think it would help fill a hole or two). This book did seem to have a couple holes and there were questions this book said would be on the exam that I did not see. However, every exam is different.Another note: The practice questions included on the CD with the book were helpful, but there were many questions on the exam that were different.

very good
I passed exam by self_study and reading this book only. Very good and suitable for entry level. but there are 2 or 3 mistakes in the book, i.e. RC is a stream cipher, but this book think it's block cipher. You still need search google to get some practice exams as well. you will see some exams but not introduce in this book.overall, it's excellent for you to pass the CEH.

Probably the best Geek book I've read!
This book is probably the best geek book I have ever read full stop! All be it an all-in-one exam guide, it is worth reading without even contemplating taking the exam.Personally I think this book should be cumpolsory reading for everybody working in the IT industry! I felt all concepts were really well explained and with enough practical examples for them to sink in!Definitely a must read geek book! Don't know if it is any value for taking the exam, will find out in a couple of months!

Mah...forse che in giro qualcosa di meglio
Bah...bello sicuramente per apprendere l’ingegneria dei software ed i principi generali, inutile per un utilizzo pratico. Ci sono solo come che valevano per software ormai obsoleti. È anacronistico.
