Ghosthouse / Witchery [Blu-ray]

A fun bluray double feature of late 80's Italian cheese.
In Italy back in the 80's, the first two Evil Dead films were released as La Casa and La Casa 2 respectively. In typical Italian film industry fashion at time, they released their own films "Ghosthouse" & "Witchery" as La Casa 3 and 4 even though they had nothing to do with the Evil Dead films. The awesome people at Scream Factory had paired both of these films on a bluray double feature for connoisseurs of 80's Italian cheese. Even though neither film is very good by normal film standards, they are still a ton of fun for horror fans. The first film Ghosthouse features ham radios & a killer doll. The second film Witchery features David Hasselhoff, Linda Blair & witches. Neither film makes a whole lot of sense (particularly Witchery) but both feature plentiful & bloody practical effects work along with campy performances which will have you laughing throughout. The transfers are quite clean and detailed though Ghosthouse looks a bit softer than Witchery but are substantial upgrades over previous DVD releases. The bit rates are solid usually around the mid 20's so no compression artifacts are visible. Each film is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.66:1 so there are some black bars on the sides of each image. Sound is presented in lossless 2 channel stereo and the only extras are theatrical trailers for each. Highly recommended!

Resurrecting a lost cult-classic.
I'm so excited to see Ghost House get a blu ray release! It's one of those 80's video store classics that, although kinda silly, stuck with me and remains a favorite. The story revolves around a couple who hear a disturbing transmission on a ham radio and go in search of the origin. What they find is a creepy old house, a creepy clown doll, and some creepy supernatural happenings. Despite some cheesy effects and a story that doesn't always add up, Ghost House is full of things that will leave an impression. The score is disturbingly catchy. The doll is disturbingly creepy. And a scene in a funeral home is disturbingly... disturbing.I recommend Ghost House to anyone who grew up in the VHS rental generation.

DVD is surprisingly good quality
For those of you that have seen Ghosthouse on VHS & would like to own it on DVD, The Mom & Pop Video Shop version is surprisingly good quality. It's full-screen, but it's also very clear & free of glitches. Now, if you've NEVER seen Ghosthouse, well, I can't really say that it's for everyone, it's a rather cheesy 80's B-movie by Umberto Lenzi directing under another name. We have a ham radio operator tracking down a call for help to a spooky abandoned house and finding that some other young folks have set up a base of operations there, unaware that 20 years previously all the tenants were mysteriously murdered & their young daughter disappeared. It all has something to do with a creepy clown doll that has questionable origins, that was given to the little girl....there is a rather incessant little evil nursery rhyme thing going on (and on, and on, and on) that comes off as sort of "low budget Argento", because he has had similar (but much better) themes in some of his films. Anyway, no good can come of all these young folks hanging out at this house because of course, it's quite haunted and almost all who enter there don't exit, at least not on their own. I guess it's all filmed in Massachussets but it certainly has the Italian "doesn't make a bit of sense" thing going on. I do actually have a soft spot in my heart (or maybe my head) for Italian films of this sort, but as I said, it's not for everyone. I'd give it 3 and 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Stars Linda Blair and David Hasselhoff.
You remember her from Excorcist,Hell Night, and you remember him from Knight Rider and Baywatch.Together they intend to solve the mystery of the witch at the house on the island and wind up deep in trouble. There trespass will be there undoing.

Decent cult horror flick
Decent low-budget cult horror flick from the '80s. I have actually decided to rent this movie twice over a course of several months. Suspense is very good and the actors carry the weight of the story well.

Amazon vantaggiosa come sempre

terrible acting..but still scared the hell out of me.
I remembered renting this from the video shop when I was about 15 and it scared the hell out of me back then, i ordered it so i could have a trip down memory lane. The film is very dated with terrible acting but it still scared me like before.
