Nitecore Tube V2.0 Keychain Flashlight, 55 Lumen Bright USB Rechargeable Ultra Lightweight Compact (Black)

I use this almost daily as it it bright and consistent. I use it as a keychain so I have it with me all the time. It is bright enough to walk home from the train at night on it's brightest setting, but soft enough to use in a restaurant to read a menu on it's lower setting. iPhone flashlights are so bright in a restaurant and using this Nitecore Tube is more subtle. The battery last about an hour on the high setting. This is the smallest rechargeable flashlight I have found and so useful. Buy it and you won't be sorry.

I think this is a pretty great little keychain light, and I'll probably buy a few more for family members. It would be nice if it were USB-C, but I'm just glad it's rechargeable at all. The light output is sufficient for short-range things, and the interface is simple enough. I like the relatively flat design a bit better than something like the ubiquitous tube – at least for keychain carry. My only minor gripe about the one I ordered is that the "Olive" – which looked a bit subdued, like a transparent olive drab – is more of an electric green. I would've preferred the former, but the latter is fine, and not enough of an issue to knock a star off the review. I've added a couple photos to show size comparison between a Rovyvon A8, the Tube v2.0, and a Photon Micro-Light.

The Nitecore Tube V2 is an excellent candidate for upgrading from a key fob to a flashlight key fob or for upgrading from a less capable flashlight key fob. To summarize, the size is suitable, the output power range useful, the output power variable, the light distribution suitable, the run times good, and the interface excellent (nearly every operation is a "shortcut", including high, low, and variable output levels). There is one catch within the user interface: a "bright trap". Trying to turn off the Tube "too soon" (i.e., just after switching it on to low) just switches it to high. Once I discovered this, I found it easy to avoid by letting the light run very briefly before switching it off. Hint: To get traditional fob orientation relative to the key ring, check with your local tackle shop or sporting goods store for a #6 (or "size 6") stainless steel split ring to install between the flashlight and key ring. Subhint: ALSO check for installation assistance unless you have split ring pliers (not snap ring pliers) or other ability (& experience) to work with such things. The small, strong split rings can be VERY frustrating (nearly impossible to install) without a suitable tool. The two key rings supplied are just over 15/32", about 12 mm, and just over 25/32", about 20 mm, diameter, both smaller than the 1+1/8" rings I'm accustomed to. This was a nonissue: I just transferred my in-use ring (and keys) to the Tube V2. Accidental activation ("hot pocket" if it were more powerful...) resistance is situational. I've not yet had a single accidental activation, likely due to both the combination of things in my pocket and the way I set 'em in place. Others have reported accidental activations, and I can understand why. With a broad pusher, activation force of my light's switch is a seemingly-appropriate 3.5 lbf (1.6 kgf). However, for a narrow pusher the force drops to a mere 0.75 lbf (0.34 kgf). So, it's just a question of whether some pointy aspect of some object is likely to land pointing onto the middle of the switch; seems not to happen to me, but your experience could differ. Strobing (popular misnomer: PWM) is nearly absent. I can detect strobing only at lowest power (by very quickly waving the Tube V2 in a circle while observing it in a mirror). I've never noticed the strobing in use. Size tidily compares to traditional "medallion" key fobs: the leather "sloped oblong" bearing a medallion with a brand logo, sports team logo, or such. My Tube V2 _just_ fits within the outline of the leather, and the thicknesses are similar too, so the Tube V2 is technically smaller due to the leather fob's greater width. The accompanying "Lumentac" or "Longhorn Tactical" light is nearly identical to a Photon Micro Light II , so information regarding that light may prove "illuminating" <grin!>. Quibbles: I'd like a way to assess battery state of charge, but for the low price that may be too much to ask. I'm curious whether the micro-USB port cover will prove adequately durable.

Finally, an intelligently designed LED light. The controls actually make sense in that it allows you to start dim and use bright when you need it. So many LED lights on the market start off at max brightness with the first click and then dim, which can spoil your night vision. This one does not, and it’s much appreciated.

I'm using this as my primary light for hikes, and on it's lowest setting, and once my eyes are adjusted, it works just fine and that is on crappy trails with hardly any footpath. Not too bad, and the battery should last 50 hours at that setting, unbelievable! So happy I got this light and such a savings in my backpack. It's so light, it goes in all my hiking packs, might as well. It's only 12g with a shock cord! Long term use update** So I've been using the nitecore tube as my primary hiking light for 4 seasons now, and it's still going strong. If I know I'm doing a lot of night hiking, I don't take this though and rather opt for a nu20, but for all my standard backpacking trips where I plan on being at camp before dark, I bring my tube along. It charges up nicely using a powerbank and the light lasts a very long time. I don't even need to use it at peak brightness, I can get by at about half brightness. I like mine, and I now have three of them. Very happy with the product.

I've used a few different EDC keychain flashlights, and this Nitecore Tube v2 is my preference for a balance between light weight, ease of use, (can find the on/off button easily), brightness levels, and price. I like that I can retrieve this from my pocket and with two clicks can have plenty of illumination for most all my needs. I also like the ease of switching to the lockoff feature to prevent accidental pocket/whatever power on, even though I don't use this feature in my everyday use. The fact that the first click to power on enables very low illumination is great - I've used this a couple of times - once helping someone find their dropped glasses in a dark movie theater. The first click is low intensity to not bother anyone, yet still bright enough to be useful. I did once experience an issue with my Nitecore Tube v2. I contacted the dealer through Amazon, and within a couple of days my issue was resolved to my complete satisfaction. They do stand behind their products. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them in the future.

This is a good little keychain flashlight. It has two intensities. Compact and lightweight . Rechargeable, which is a plus. However the advertising on the Amazon site led me to believe I was ordering one that has a pivoting head. I will keep this one since it is good to light your way in a dark room. It is probably better than nothing if you are outdoors walking in a dark or dimly lit street or if you are out in the woods with no other kind of light but if you are riding a bike and need to see several feet in front of you this would not cut the mustard. . Of course I have not tried it in such a manner. I have not used the light on a long term basis and am not sure how long lasting and rugged it is. I will update as I am able to.
