great product
I have a 20hp Mercury outboard. I did not need the adapter that came with the kit but being a bit of a pack rat saved it in the back of the toolbox. This pump works great no leaks and it allows very precise delivery of the lube with little waste. I set the pump and quart of oil up so i could see the oil level in the bottle. Then I pumped oil into the lower unit until I was close to the 12 oz. capacity the owners manual listed. At this point I pumped slower until the oil just came out of the upper vent hole. I found this process more efficient that using a tube or squeeze bottle of gear oil. Best of luck.

Must have for any DIY boater!
Absolute must have for any boater. If you change your lower unit lube regularly (which you should), this pump will save you alot of time and frustration. It is just plastic, probably cost about 10 cents to manufacture, but still the best $6 I've spent this year. It was SO nice to just screw in the pump to the lower unit and into the gear lube bottle and pump away. To be done correctly, it should be pumped in from the bottom drain hole. I have only used it once so far, and it performed as it should. No issues.

Helps change your engines lower unit oil!
This is a perfect tool to help you change your two stroke engines lower unit oil. Each off season I winterize my engine and this is a quick and easy task to check off my off season maintenance list. I’ve used this tool for two seasons and there’s no reason why I can’t see it lasting for a few more. It’s definitely a job that can be done by a DIYer, rather than paying someone to do it. Check you engines specs and make sure you pick up two washers for the two bolts that need to be taken out to get the gear oil out of the lower unit. It’s a cheap insurance policy that you get a good seal when you tighten the bolts back up. Also, put the old gear oil in a plastic container for a day and see if there is any separation of the old oil...if you see a layer of water, then water has intruded into the lower unit- which is something you want to get fixed by a pro right away or yourself if you are comfortable enough with changing gaskets. This tool is a terrific help and needs to be part of your off season boat maintenance tool box. I hope this review was helpful. Happy and safe boating.

Worked flawlessly!!!
This pump makes changing the lower unit lube. It pays to have the right tools for the job and with this it was a cake walk. It comes with the smaller adapter that I did not need for my older outboard motor the yellow end had the same thread size and screwed into the lower unit. I was able to do a lower unit fluid swap in 20 minutes with this no hassle pump. I would recommend getting one of these if you are doing a fluid change it make the job go way smoother. I would purchase this product again.

Great little pump
I originally bought this for the Merc, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I did, however, get to use this to fill the ATF on my 2007 Explorer. For all the wrong reasons, Ford decided to forgo a transmission dipstick on this gen Explorer, so you have to pump the fluid in through the drain hole. While the threads on this pump did not fit exactly, the o-ring on the fitting was more than adequate to do the job. I did have to hold the hose in place with one hand and pump with the other, but it worked in a pinch.

THIS PRODUCT MAKES CHANGING LOWER UNIT OIL A SNAP!
Don't think about using one of those squeeze bottles to fill your lower unit - it will be a mess! Since lower units get filled from the bottom (drain) plug to avoid trapping air, it makes sense to buy this pump. The pump screws on to the threads of quart size necks that most oil manufactureres use. The threaded fitting at the end of the hose fits your lower unit, use the adapter if you have a Yamaha......NEVER USE A WRENCH - if it is the right thread, the fitting should screw in smoothly with just your fingers. Be sure and use the exact weight of GEAR OIL/LOWER UNIT LUBE that your manufacturer recommends. After draining all the oil old oil out, replace the washers that should be on the drain plugs. My Yamaha's bottom plug has a magnet built in to it so I can check for any metal filings. After all the old oil is out, attach the fitting from the pump on to the bottom drain. Your lower unit should be in the VERTICAL POSITION. Attach a new bottle of lubricant and pump away until you see the new oil start exiting the upper (vent) plug. At this point you'll want to install the drain plug into the upper vent drain and the unscrew the lubricant supply hose from the bottom drain plug. Because the vent plug is sealed when you take the hose out you won't lose too much new oil, but i still use my finger to seal it while I line up and install the lower drain plug. Make sure both plugs were placed with fresh washers/crush plugs and that they are tight. There, you are done!

Fits a normal 1l oil bottle. However, the gear oil I bought was by a major performance brand and they come with a wide mouth lid. So this didn't fit. It was functional but including a wide mouth bottle adapter would have been more beneficial than the nozzle adapter included.

I used this pump for pumping gear oil into my 2006 Mercury 115 Fourstroke lower unit. I have nothing bad to say, It worked as intended. It came with vinyl tubing and a plastic fitting to thread into the fill port. For my Engine, the plastic fitting had the correct threads and worked perfectly fine. It did come with an aluminum adapter fitting with smaller thread. I do have a Mercury 5 HP Fourstroke but I did try the fitting yet. I suspect the adapter fitting with the smaller thread may fit the 5 HP engine.
