Another great book from Chris Hart
This is a great resource for the aspiring comic book artist.Christopher Hart is perhaps one of the most versatile, prolific artist resource creators ever. I swear, every time I look up a book to help me with a particular art style I see his name pop up and a litany of guides appear in the list. This guy is skilled in many different styles and it's a bit mind boggling to say the least. He does anime, manga, comic books, cartooning, animals, fashion, figure drawing, kids art books, art books for adults, anatomy books for more stylized comic books.. Dear lord, Chris Hart!! Haven't you mastered enough art styles?I got this book on a whim since I've been working on a comic book (maybe a web comic.. maybe) and I already have a few Chris Hart books. I'm a pretty good artist myself but it's great to have some ideas and some concept art sitting near you. I really liked the style in the Simplified Anatomy book Chris Hart put out and I purchased it. It sort of reminds me of Batman: The Animated Series or Marvel Cartoons like Spiderman or the X-Men to a certain degree.I would highly suggest this book for anyone who wants to draw comics. I'd also suggest checking out everything else Chris Hart makes. This guy is great.

Very Good... Not Perfect
I'm in no way a professional cartoonist. I draw for personal satisfaction. My work is ok best so take my comments in that context. This book is not a step by step instruction on how to draw comic book heroes... It assumes you know the basics and are looking to draw in a more streamlined manner similar to modern action animation being produced today. That being said it does give a lot of great tips and tricks that have really boosted my skills in a short amount of time and I'm not even finished reading the entire book yet. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is that I don't love the authors writing style. I'm a technical person and he obviously isn't one. I wish he was more organized and too the point. But that's a personal preference. He does know what he's doing and he's great at it. But for me I had to dig a little to get the good stuff out but it's there and it works. One note about comments stating the drawing are inconsistent... I have to say I actually like that... Gets your mind working in order to form your own style rather than just copy what you see. It all works for me. I've very tempted to buy more of his books. I have the "Cartoon Cool" book but haven't started reading it. At first glance that one looks good too.

Need to refine this style of drawing? Buy this book!
I've been a clandestine pencil artist all my life. I earned the nickname Xerox in high school because I could draw anything I saw. I decide to turn this into a career. I attended the Art Institute of Atlanta, but didn't graduate. There I learned some technique, but also learned what I needed was experience and exposure to a wider berth or reference material. As a comic book kid I drew with a Mid-90's Marvel comic book style. My departed wife had the great idea for me to turn her into a comic book character. Now that she gone that idea hasn't left me. She also left me with the greatest comic book writer of the 21st Century, our 6 yr/old son. I'm taking all the joy and the pain of losing Mommy and turning into comic book adventures. While watching cartoons with with my son he asked if I could draw like that? The more simplified style he sees on TV. I bought this book as reference, and I'm very glad i did. Not only am I learning a new style, but I'm learning how to translate my old style into this one. In the end making me a better artist.

just what i was looking for.
this book was exactly what i was looking for. my own personal art has taken on the "streamlined" look and i found this book very helpful in developing my style further. im not too crazy about other books by this author but this one was broken down nicely. the only thing i thought was a little bit of a bummer was that most of the characters look the same. with this style i suppose thats kind of an easy problem to run into. i did really like how the book was broken down into sections focusing on males and females. i thought more attention could have been given to clothing and shading. that being said, im not sure if this book would be good for a beginner. i have lots of "how to draw" books and really, i think this one and "how to draw the marvel way" are the two that i go back to most frequently. if you like the style of bruce timm, then you will really enjoy this book.

Great guy, Great Teacher, Great Book!!!!!
In this amazingly fun book by Christopher Hart, he provides insite on what could be the simplest, yet most energetic art style there is. The animated style made popular by comic great Bruce Tim. The animated style is a great way to learn to draw without feeling overwhelmed. The style works well for comics and animation. I highly recommend this book for any newbie or pro. Christopher Hart makes learning fun and provides amazing content on his site, and on his youtube page.

GREAT for those who love drawing animated-like stuff
For starters, this book is by Christopher Hart, so naturally it's a great buy for people interested in the subject. This is a great book for people who prefer a more cartoony style to the graphic novel detail; I myself love drawing cartoons (including many Disney ones) and this book is wonderful in teaching you how to do your own, as well as be a most excellent reference guide for muscles, bones, and character ideas.A TOTAL recommendation if you want to try the more cartoony style. But if you're more into the hard-core graphic novels (like the newer X-Men series), I totally recommend Christopher Hart's "Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy: The Ultimate Reference for Comic Book Artists."

Great for learning to simplify
This book is pretty cool. My 9yo wants to make a comic book I showed him this book to get ideas on body and movement. And he's done wonders.

More than just simplified style
This book is like a minor study of anatomy than just "how to draw simplfied style". It shows the difference between traditional and simplfied styles and details how the two styles concentrate on different anatomical features. I got this as a companion to Drawing Dynamic Comics (Cutting Edge (Watson-Guptill Paperback)) and the two complement each other brilliantly. Like other reviews have said, this book doesn't start at the beginning and so is less suitable for those who are starting to learn how to draw comic-art. But as a specific or even a second reference book or to further progress in drawing comic art it works brilliantly.Clear concise and yet not patronsing. Excellent book. Drawing Dynamic Comics (Cutting Edge (Watson-Guptill Paperback))

Very good for all comic book artists
I bought this book for my boyfriend who was getting into comic/figure drawing. I draw myself and I think it is a really good book for someone learning about drawing anatomy. The simplified shapes and lines are really good for a beginner and it is a really modern way of comic drawing that looks really stylish. Would recommend this book to anyone wishing to improve their drawing skills

Simplified Anatomy for the comic book artist
The beginning of the book is quite promising detailing on pages 12 and 13 how to draw a stylised face. Pages 14 to 21 give good facial expressions and keen artwork. Pages 24 to 49 go into depth on face construction. Pages 56 to 61 give the best artwork of the book showing basic muscle constucts. The rest of the book shows muscles within characters.Overall deduction, fantastic artwork but not much detail into recreatable anatomy for a beginner.
