I got this knife because I recently got into mushroom foraging and saw this beautiful blade on a YouTube channel. I placed the order and it arrived shortly after. I keep it in my pocket every day, ready for a spur-of-the-moment foraging trip. I was concerned that the boar hair brush would not be durable, but I have had no issues at all with it becoming maimed from being in my pocket all the time. It has held up extraordinarily well, and is very stiff. This comes in handy for brushing off the bugs from the mushrooms.I have cut myself once, but this was user error my first time out, not knowing how incredibly fast this blade would pass through a mushroom. It healed without a scar (I think because of how sharp this bad boy is!).The locking mechanism has taken a bit to get used to, and it has gotten easier to lock over time. When I first got the knife, it was not an easy lock.In short, I grow to love this knife more and more and look forward to using it more in the years to come!Edit: I’ve added my photo showing the knife after daily pocket carrying. You can see there is tons of life in the boat hair still!

I grow mushrooms and this knife is wonderful for cutting them when they are ready. I love that I can lock the knife open so I don't have to worry about it closing while in use. It is very sharp but easy to close. I also like that it has a brush on the other side for brushing the dirt off of the mushroom. Great product

As an avid forager, the Opinel No. 08 Mushroom Knife has become an essential tool in my kit. The curved blade is perfectly designed for cutting mushrooms cleanly without damaging them, and the integrated boar-bristle brush makes cleaning quick and easy right in the field. The beechwood handle feels sturdy and comfortable in hand, while the Virobloc safety ring ensures the blade stays securely locked during use.I love how lightweight and portable it is, making it easy to carry during long foraging trips. However, I did notice that the blade wasn’t as sharp as I expected straight out of the box, and I had to give it a quick touch-up. Additionally, the locking mechanism feels a little stiff at times, but it hasn’t caused any major issues.Overall, this knife is a fantastic choice for anyone passionate about foraging. Its functionality, classic design, and convenience make it a tool I highly recommend!

Hi there,I would like to start this review off by saying that this knife is great for any dedicated forager. The Opinel brand comes with great quality for a somewhat decent price, that being said, if you are a novice or someone who forages casually then you may find better value in the many “mushroom knife’s” that are in the ten dollar range.The boar hair brush works great for removing dirt/debris and the blade can be safely locked open or closed with an easy swivel of the guard.The blade is made out of stainless steel so it’s easy to maintain, however, it didn’t come absolutely razor sharp… but I have no issue spending the few minutes it takes to put a razor sharp edge on it.Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this product as a gift for your amateur mushroom hunter or as a nice little “treat yourself item” for your more dedicated foragers.

I've enjoyed the simplicity and lightweight utility of Opinel knives for a while now and was hoping this would make a good gift for Christmas. Success! Even my knife-collecting giftees were excited to try this out on their next mushroom foraging trip!
