Great product
Replaced existing wire spring type top of chimney damper that lasted only 2 years. The heat destroyed the spring wire that opens the damper cap. This type works great. Should last longer. Does leak some minor rain water and is not totally air tight. Went in easy. Will need to be removed to clean the chimney. Installed a fixed mounting plate to bolt it to for easy removal.

Our damper on our fireplace was rusted out and we were looking for an alternative solution to paying someone to come install a new one. This acts as a chimney cap and damper. There is a chain that comes down and you can close or open. It’s easy to install and helps keep cold air out.

Seller does not stand by their product
Easy to install, easy to use. However, the damper does not open fully impeding airflow to the point of smoke coming out of the fireplace into the room. When not in use, a draft is still felt even with closing glass doors covering the fireplace. I tried adjusting the tension on the cable which did not change either issues. I reached out to the seller for assistance (maybe this is a defective unit) and they have not adequately responded. It appears this seller does not stand by their product and so this item cannot be recommended.

Purchased over 2 years ago, no more cold drafts!!!
I have had no birds, squirrels, leaves, or twigs get into my chimney. Easy to install and use. My old dampener was falling apart. I use a glove when I close the new one off without worrying about my arm catching on fire. The flapper has a high temp red silicone seal that may try to stick to the clean paint when new, so I put some petroleum jelly on the seal so it would release. Water drips in the chimney during heavy downpours. Will fabricate a chimney top to ensure the damper stays dry.This damper is thick steel and I expect it to last 30 years. Would make a good base for a chimney topper.

The sizing chart is wrong
It states the minimum flue size is 6 3/4 x 6 3/4. The damper lid is 6 1/2 inches wide. My 8 inch flue has 6 3/8 inside dimension. It won't fit.
