One is good, two is better
First off, I bought two of these to light a large backyard and my patio so I can BBQ outside year-round even after dark. One (installed in September 2019) is mostly aimed at the yard. It's a good light (brighter than the nearly 10 year old 70W high pressure sodium light fixture it replaced) but it wasn't quite enough on its own. The other was installed today and is aimed directly at my patio and the grill at a closer range. Together, the two of them produce about 12,000 lumens of light, which is enough to light the area a little bit brighter than it is at twilight in the summertime. Nothing is as bright or as good as real sunlight, but this is more than adequate for my purposes. The light is bright white with a touch of blue-green in it. The lights buzz a little bit but it isn't too loud. There is no photocell on this model, but that's no problem for me because I only need the lights when I'm out cooking there instead of letting them go all night.

WOW that's a lot of light for only 100 watts!
I bought this to replace a 500 watt halogen fixture on the peak of my garage (it is used to light up the driveway). For some reason, the halogen bulbs kept failing and I'd have to lug the ladder out and risk breaking my neck to replace it every month or so. I decided to give this light a try considering its brightness and much lower power usage (100 watt versus 500 watt). I went outside tonight to test it out. Holy smokes! Not only can I play basketball at night in my driveway, but now I can do the same in my neighbor's driveway across the street. My kids think the neighbors are going to be mad that their house and yard are lit up too!I didn't experience the poor retaining ring mentioned by another reviewer...it installed easily and seems sturdy and well built (I cannot speak for longevity at this point). As with Metal Halides, the light does take a couple minutes to reach full brightness...something to consider. However, considering the additional light and much lower power consumption, I'm going to accept the startup time.I recommend this light and am ordering another to replace the backyard halogen too.Jason G

These lights are bright and economical to use.
The lights work great. Although as it is the case with fluorescent lighting, the starter/igniter only lasts a few years. Usually, the bulbs outlast the starters.

Bright and energy efficient
I purchased this light to replace a 300 watt quartz halogen floodlight. This light is much brighter than the 300 watt quartz halogen floodlight it replaced and consumes about 1/3 the energy. Also being a metal halide light, the bulb should last about 10x as long as the quartz halogen light it replaced. This is a real bonus in a situation where the bulb is a big hassle to replace. The downside to a metal halide light is that they take about 5 minutes to come up to full brightness. So you wouldn't want to use it is a situation where you need the light to come up to full brightness right away, such as a light connected to a motion sensor. I use the light where it is on dusk to dawn, so that was not an issue for me. The light does not come with the photo eye for dusk to dawn operation. However I was able to purchase one at low cost at a local home improvement store. It is simple to wire up per the instructions. I did knock off a star because the mounting arm assembly isn't as study as I think it should be. However, if you loosen the screw on the mounting arm before you try to aim the light, I don't think you would have any problems. This light has already been through a windstorm with 50 MPH gusts and it didn't break. The seals on the glass door that opens for bulb replacement seem to be well constructed, so this light should last for years.

Semi poorly-made and bad mounting hardware. Shame on QC.
Overall a decent fixture, but left a few things to be desired. I am using this for experimental purposes [hooked to a 3-prong cord for temporary use], rather than an outdoor light, so I can't say how this would hold up in an outdoor environment. Nevertheless, I used "real" mounting hardware, and can safely say that anyone could very well have a nightmare trying to mount this.1) The mounting hardware was VERY problematic. Namely, the screws it came with did NOT fit what was supposed to be a "universal" junction box. The screws were just a hair too slim, and would not retain in the junction box - they would slip right out and make NO contact. In the end, I shoved a plastic ANCHOR into one of the junction box holes, and found a semi-mating screw from MY OWN JAR. Needless to say, this would not be acceptable in a "proper" installation.2) The ballast mounting bracket was shipped a bit loose, which caused the light to noticeably BUZZ. Removing the inner reflector and tightening the ballast bracket screws stopped this buzzing, however. BAD QC!!3) The aluminum-coated-copper wires (black-and-white), are VERY cheap. When I went to wire it to the cord, the wires were far too short - even if this were a regular Romex install. Thus, I had to strip some extra wire. However, I kept losing strands on every attempt, despite having the right strippers and gauge. This left very little wire behind in the end, and I was honestly afraid I would render the fixture useless by not having anything left.On the upside, the light is nice and bright, and warms up fast with no flicker (once at full power). As with any other HID fixture, know that you do need to wait for it to warm up, and wait a couple minutes for it to re-strike and warm back up after a power interruption, and you cannot use a dimmer switch or motion sensor. Photocontrols [light sensors] and regular switches are perfect, however.

Nice Light but NOT for Security Purposes
This light is really nice if you have the time to wait for it to fully light up which takes about 4-5 minutes. I replaced a 500 watt halogen light with this unit and I love it. It not only saves a lot of money but the light it much whiter and makes it easier to see into the shadows but it is not able to be used as a security light that is meant to be turned on and off quickly. I live in Alaska and when fall shows up here we have a lot of darkness and this light is a life saver which allows one to work outside all evening. I am in the process of replacing my halogens with LED floods but I may keep this light for my main patio/work area.
