it really 💪 and powerful
It arrived today. I was so excited. I've had a pool for 7 years but sometimes a pool is very hard to keep especially 27 foot round above ground. my previous pool came with a brand name. The price for that brand was too high. So I reviewed Dohenny's that had great reviews and the price was so affordable at 168.00.Wow!! plugged it in and it's quiet and the suction power was amazing!! The black leaf catch has easy remove cap. At first I forgot to screw it down and tighten it was amazed it did not pop off when I turned it on. I will recommend this brand.1.5 HPexcellent performanceI will definitely shop this brand again for other accessories.

Awesome pump !
The Dohenys pump did everything it’s supposed to? It’s an awesome pump so glad I went with it. It’s moving a lot of water. I got the one and a half horse motor. it’s a super quiet, running moving water like it should pretty tempted to buy another one before the prices all go up next year lol

Performing well in a tough environment
We are using the Doheny 1 1/2 hp pump in a non-standard way, but it seems to be doing extremely well. So well in fact that we are ordering two more; one for a backup and one for a second system. The non-standard use? Greenhouse aquaponics. We are using this pump as a circulating pump for essentially a 3,300 gallon aquarium (or even a pond). We are raising a fish called a tilapia and circulating the (not very clean) water to plants in vertical towers, grow beds and bato buckets. The pump has been running 24/7 for 9 months now without a problem. We only shut it off once or twice a week for about ten minutes to clean the filter. The basket is pretty easy to clean with a small brass bristle tooth brush (we get a lot of algae and other fun stuff in it). It is very quiet compared to the Intex pumps we were using that didn't last very long at all. The cord gets warm and a little soft which might indicate the wire needs to be bigger but so far it hasn't developed any issues. The pump is open, inside the greenhouse, but it does run fairly warm; almost too warm to the touch. The garter snakes sure seem to like it. Water temps go from about 55 or so in the winter to 85 degrees in the summer. It gets up to 100 degrees air temp or so at times, especially in the summer. We use a 90% shade cloth over the fish tanks and pool (one of those Intex 12 foot by two foot metal pole ones) and the pump is under that also for about eight months of the year. We are at an elevation of about 5,500 feet, have five IBC tanks, the pool, a couple of solar collectors (1/2" CPVC pipe over a metal back in a five-by-eight foot two by four box), ten buckets, eight three-foot vertical towers, a 480 gallon aluminum holding tank, three breeding aquariums and six IBC tank-top gravel grow beds. I think the 1 1/2 hp pump has enough oomph to supply even a few more grow beds or towers too.The brushes usually fail on a motor first. Don't know if they can be replaced on this motor but we'll give it a shot when the time comes. It'll void the warranty (which was probably shot right away anyway because of the non-standard use) but warranties don't last forever. The pump, though, is seemingly giving "forever" the old college try so far. However, it's not the warranty that impresses. It's the quality of the item, and this pump so far has it.Update 6/24/20: The pump finally failed after about 4 years running 24/7. The motor seems to be running, but it is not pumping. I haven't taken apart the pump to troubleshoot, but it doesn't look like its plugged. Ran longer than I expected, which is good.

The pump isn't quite as powerful as a Hayward
This is a perfect replacement for a Hayward pump and motor. The fit is exactly the same. This motor is very quiet. The motor is 1.5 HP, yet it has the same exact amps as the 1 HP. Sooo either this is extremely efficient or the ratings aren't right. Also, the pump just doesn't have the same psi under load as the Hayward. When my filter is dirty, the Hayward would get the psi right up to 21psi. This motor and pump will only reach 18 psi when the filter is dirty. When the filter is clean, both will produce 11 psi. Overall, it's a great deal for the price. I would buy it again.

Broke down after 3 months
So annoyed! I don’t usually write reviews but this pump is very disappointing in breaking down in only 3 months of use. My last pump lasted 7 years and this one only lasted a measly 3 months. I purchased the pump in May. It worked great at first and then started making a loud noise in August. Sounded like the barrings / motor inside the pump went bad, again only after 3 months of use! So disappointing! Now I’m out of $200 and have to search for a new pump for next year! It sure won’t be this brand! Ugh!! ☹️

Great buy
I purchased this a month ago to replace an old pump that burned out. I was able to turn the output to push the water out of the side instead of the top with instuctions from the Youtube.Pump is quieter than old pump.
